National insignia on us ww2 aircraft, the late war 'star and bar' are generally referred to in size such as a 40" or a 55"; however, It does not seem to me that this refers to the total width of the insignia (i.e. the width of the bar). Is it the width of the circle? the star? My scaled down measurements seem to indicate the star, but who knows if the decals I am basing my analysis on are actually correctly scaled?
