Vallejo “Silver Darts “ paint set
Posted by Tankluver on Sunday, March 1, 2020 11:04 PM

Would the Vallejo paint set "silver darts" be a good start for painting a Soviet TU-16 Badger and possibly even the TU-95 Bear Bomber. I know this may sound silly but I don't want to get the wrong silver color for these planes.

As long as you have Aluminum, you’ll be good. That’s the main color for the external skin. You can use other metallic colors for a multi tone panels look.

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Thank you, I feel the need to be cautious entering into a new realm of model building.

Did the Badger have a painted aluminum finish, or did it have the relatively rare unpainted finish?

I believe most of the service planes were painted aluminum, as in US Navy of thirties.  I have seen pictures of bare metal ones but I think your best bet for common Migs is just to go with aluminum paint, not a metalized coating.

Google (image option) badger bmber and most look painted.  There are a few that look bare metal.  The problem with older airplanes is that many are in museums, and when people restore for a museum they do not all do it authentically.  So either option can be real.  I have built several planes where I depicted it purposely as a museum plane because I liked the livery.

Yeah i figure I'll need to do some more research. I only really got interested in the Badger bomber after reading Red Storm Rising which I believe it mentions Them being aluminium but i could be wrong.
