Nichimo 1/48 Ki-45 Toryu
Posted by Aleksander on Thursday, March 12, 2020 6:21 AM

I would to share my recent built - an old Nichimo Ki-45 Toryu. The kit was built as a part of the group project "Pacific War" on our forum.

Quite a nice kit, with a surprisingly good fit except canopys - both front and aft canopy were too narrow - I destroyed them when trying to widen, so I used Falcon Vacu set instead.

I've added Eduard IJA seat belts (for Kawasaki) only and a rear machine gun type 98 (actually rather absent in a real plane) from FineMolds set. Antennna wire from E-Z line.

All Hinomarus, white bands, numbers and 53rd Kokutai "logos" were painted from Montex masks. Green camo splotches were painted free-hand - I hope they at least roughly resemble the real pattern.

Oh wow, love the camo! The Nichimo kit may be older but it's still a nice reproduction of the aircraft, didn't know about the canopy though.

I chose Tamiya XF-13 and XF-14 (IJA Grey and IJA Green)

All I see here is a fantastic looking "Nick" - the quality of the kit is not relevant given the job you've done with it.  The paint job looks like it should, based on my relatively limitied knowledge of Japanese camouflaging schemes. Thanks for sharing.

Great finish, Aleksander!

I think the Nick is considered among the better airplane kits that Nichimo produced.  You've done an excellent job with that classic kit.

Very nice build!  The Nichimo kit, despite dating back to prehistoric times, is really not bad.
