So, I've had this idea floating around my head for a bit now, and with these corona quarantines floating about, I decided to clear my bench and get started. My thought process is, what if The invasion force had Ospreys to augment the Dakotas and Skytrains as a delivery system of the paratroopers....
I have gotten the initial build and paint finished this past weekend, and have the invasion stripes set for this weekend.

Mortal as I am,I know that I am born for a day. But when I follow at my pleasure the serried multitude of the stars in their circular course, my feet no longer touch the Earth...
And what if those paratroopers had been armed with M4's? They would have cut through the german troops like a hot knife through butter.

Cool concept and I am tuned in to see the final version. Good luck on those stripes and can't wait to see what you come up with!
I'm also looking forward to your next post. How was the kit?
It does kind of resemble a Shorts Bros. aircraft. USAAF or RAF?
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Well, they would have been more useful than the gliders for those portions of the assault force. Parachute Infantry don’t need no stinking Ospreys!
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Goodness, jumping out of one of those?
In hover, you'd get blown down into the head of the guy before you.
In level flight, you'd get blown up the b#tt of the guy ahead of you.

It can do ramp jumps, just like large helicopters such as the Chinook. Dropping from any helicopter in a hover in combat would be suicidal- a stationary target.
Forward airspeed and a slight pause between each jumper insures adequate separation in the air. Ramp jumps are pretty sweet compared to side doors...
I expect something C-47-ish like "That's All Brother." Looking forward to the finished build. Anything will look good with Invasion Stripes!
OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...
USAAF.....I'm an american....you know we saved the brits in WWII! ;) Lol
This was the Italeri kit, and while it wasn't as bad as revell's lightning or black widow kits, it definitely has some troubles!
Definitely C47 inspired....actually, the decals I picked up are actually from a C47 skytrain. I finished the main construction, paint, decals and weathering this weekend. I will post photos tomorrow from work. (It's a PITA to do on my tablet...) I only have the small bits that like to break off left to install, and a little darkening on the canopy glassbecause I painted it separately and the color is lighter.
Keyda sent me some of her extra paratroopers, so I am picturing a scene similar to Shep Paine's scene....
I do need to 'modulate' the canopy color; since I painted it separately, it came out lighter than the fuselage, but other than that, just the small "bits and bobs" need to be added!
This is toooo cool! What a neat idea - shades of Final Countdown.
Wow! That actually works really well!
Best looking V-22 I've ever seen (not a fan).
Now it needs a couple of crew in crush caps and A2's.
That looks really good! What with the US Army's new retro uniforms, maybe...
Now do the German Wasserfall Ferngelenkte FlaRakete Mk. IX!
Gary
Cool idea. Like your execution! I think it's the weathering that really seems to give it a period correct vibe.
In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!
Not a fan of the Osprey but your rendition is right-on! Terrific execution. Like I said, anything looks good with Invasion Stripes! Well done.
Maybe a jeep and 57mm AT gun would go good with that...
Your Osprey is an inspiration! I'm going through my stash to see what I have that will fit a similar "what-if" idea. I've done two in the past, an A-Wing and an X-Wing Star Wars model.
.
I really like the whole idea of "what-if's."
I'm really digging that A-Wing!
So, I've been involved with a few different group builds the past few months, so I havent gotten much of the Osprey finished, BUT, I did dtart painting the paratroopers and the Infantry that will end up being the payload for this D-Day delivery...
I recieved the stick of paratroopers from a member here, and finally worked up the ambition to get them painted this past weekend. Also, it appears that a Jeep and a few regular infantry will be hitching a ride on this bird as well...
Great job on the osprey and the figures look fantastic. 1/48?
Thanks,
John
This just keeps getting better!
keavdog Great job on the osprey and the figures look fantastic. 1/48?
Yes sir! The paratroopers are from the Monogram/Revell C47 kit, and he Jeep, driver and commander are from the Tamiya US Infantry at rest kit in 1/48th...
mrmike This just keeps getting better!
Thanks!
Bangup job on those figures! diamonds from coal for sure. Can't believe they were revell figures. You made them look good.
