MB13 - That's just a dynamite model, and the finish is nothing short of exceptional. Whatever it is that you do for a finish like that, you have it wired.

Ain't no airbrush needed for you. Thanks for the enjoyable post and photos.

Hey thank you very very much Patrick I just tried some things and it turned out that way so I'm gonna continue using them :P

Thanks for satisfying my curiousity about the paint. I had noticed how well the paint laid down and the details really pop for a brush paint job. You created a fine example of what Vallejo can do if done right.

Sounds like you found out the Model Air is not too much fun to brush paint.

Again, Yes

The Air had some kind of bigger pigments in it or something and it shows a lot when it dries, wich the Model doesn't have at all. I tough the paints were the same but the Air was just thinned down a bit, but there is a difference between the 2 for sure.

Very nice!  I know few masters of brush painting (I am certainly not), and you are one of them.

Well said, I agree. What a great job you did. If I knew my you know what from a hole in the ground when it comes to brush-painting, you'd have me re-thinking the whole process, but alas, such is not the case.

That cockpit and pilot figure are excellent, too.

If I may ask, and I know it the skill of the user, not the raw materials, but what brand(s) of paint did you use?

Thank you Greg!!

I don't think I'm that skilled yet it's just my 2nd build so still a lot to be learned, but I use Vallejo paints and primer, I thing they do a great job. I use Vallejo Model and thin it 1:1 paint and water, and I apply many thin layers and let them dry at least 3 to 4 hours before the next coat.

I tried the Vallejo Air but did not get the same results so went back to Model.

Hope that helps ;)

That is an excellent looking build! Did you use any masking to get those nice straight color lines?

Thanks Stikpusher!! No I did not use masking tape, I did all the camo free hand with brushes, a round one for the contour and a flat for the interior.

More like ninja brushing skills, that is spectacular! As the decals go, manufacturer quality is all over the board, no two sets act alike. And....a gunship gray "C" is not unheard of, the fighter wing at Lakenheath, England painted one up in that color just last year for a DDay commemorative flight. Furball decals sells a set of those markings.

Thanks and I did not know Gunship Grey ''C'' existed, good to know it will not be that historicaly inacurate after all haha!!!

You could have fooled me, it looks really good. I highly reccomend Solvaset decal solution. The stuff does wonders on stubburn decals.

Thank you PlasticJunkie for the tip I will try that for sure!!! :)

2nd model in 20 years, 100% brushed, Hasegawa 1/48 F-22 Raptor
Posted by MB13 on Saturday, April 4, 2020 7:28 PM

Hi guys,

So here is my 2nd build since I've come back to the hobby, my 1st Corona build loll I chose the Raptor because it's my favorite jet and I wanted to have one on my stash :) And I went with the Hasegawa because of the reviews I saw on the net. Altough it's just my 2nd serious build, I have to say this kit is absolutely unbelievable! The fit is absolutely great and it needed almost no filler at all, I was really impressed by the ingineering, really unbelievable!!

The only down side are the decals, they were an absolute pain to apply and some are really not applied to my liking, don't know why because I did the same process that I did with my Revell and it turned out good on it so.. I even tried the Mr.Mark setter and softer but did not change a thing.. Maybe just a lack of experience here..

As for the paint, the camo was already a big challenge for me to do so I did not try to get the ''metallic sheen'' that the Raptors have, just did a matt coat after the paint job. I think it doesn't look that bad actually, I'm ok with it for a 2nd build.. I did all the camo free hand with no masking, I was absolutely terrified to do it that way but in the end I think it turned out not that bad!! It was not  really that hard to do just need to be carefull and patient!!

I went with the same kind of stand as my F-18, Easy to do and it does the job!!

So that's it thanks for looking at it and as always I'm opened to any construtive comments guys!! Thanks!!! :D

P.S. The next one is already on the bench, the GWH F-15 C, and I plan to paint it like the F-15 E because I absolutely love the E color!! I know it is not historicaly accurate but I don't think the Scale Modeling God will be that angry and also I have to put a pilot in it and one is enough of a job at this time in my modeling carreer :P
