A BIG THANKS! - and my B25J
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, April 11, 2004 9:18 AM
Hi All!
This is my first post and I wanted to thank everyone on this board and espcially the FSM folks. Smile [:)] After returing from Iraq I picked up a copy of FSM at the bookstore and was hooked on modeling after a 20 year absence. Everyone's knowledge that they have shared here on the board and their own webpages has most definitely rekindled a long-long lost love of modeling and I am most appreciative.
Below is a picture of my freshly completed B25J from Hasewaga's new kit...Big Smile [:D] my first "grown up" model that took me 4 weeks to do. I wasn't happy with the Factory fresh look so I weathered her down and added the 2 HF and 1 VHF antennas that were missing from the kit. And oh, i'm starting a diorama to show her off. Everyones help with masking, washes, coats, salt chipping, staining, sprue stretching...et al was very very useful. Smile [:)]
Again THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I hope that I can contribute more to the community in the future and become consumed into my new hobby!

Wow! Thanks to everyone for the VERY kind comments. Cool [8D] My B25J is my third model...my first was a generic Bradley (I know...it's tank) but it was a safe way for me to figure out this is what I wanted to do. Learned how to wash and dry brush but it is more or less out of the box.

Next I built a 1/48 F-86-J30..Not too fancy but I played more with masking and washes and coats this time.

Then came Jaunty Joe...and I had to take my time and pour lots of love into her...4 weeks and all my free time and I'm hooked! detailed the cockpits, weathering, this is great fun!!!!!!

Anyway thanks again! More will come! (going to the hobby shop today to find a new model Big Smile [:D])

Mike,
Thanks! Big Smile [:D] I used a combination of methods....I used Swanny's tips for using salt crystals for "chipped paint" but instead of dusting her with the salt I made a think salt soup that I applied with a wet brush (great site, btw Swanny!). Doesn't show real well on the picture but I did this on the canopy frames too (I used FSM's article on masking last month)...for the oil stains/gunpowder marks I first applied a very thin base of Jet Exhaust, then a thin layer of engine gray followed with a layer of dark gray pastel chalk. The wash was a 30/70 black gray and i left a really light coat of it on top of the olive drab and decals to weather it a little. I used a grey wash to weather the propellers but kept one new looking for that just replaced look. I even experimented with the yellow pastel trick on one of the panels...Really just doing what "looked" right with my reference picts and am happy with the results Smile [:)].
The fuel truck is also a Hasewaga kit that i bumped into at my hobby shop and thought it would make a great start for a dio. I had to make the windows and added some fuel hoses with some wire I had and need to muddy it up some. It came with some figures that I am going to setup as if "on break"...once i figure out how to paint people in 1/72d scale!
Sorry for any red "x"s...don't have my own dedicated webserver space to play with yet and it might not work for everyone. Will fix soon!
Again...THANKS to everyone!

Hi Steve,
I've only done that Academy 1/35 M2 (took me a few days) that Academy 1/48th F-86 (about a week) and the 1/72 Hasewaga B25...four weeks consuming all my free time (even lunch!)....so it only been since mid-feb that I've been modeling. That's not counting my shortlived childhood slapped together models. Just been applying lessons learned from the board and FSM progressively on each one and it has worked out fantastic! I have YOU ALL TO THANK! THANK THANK THANK YOU! Big Smile [:D] This is GREAT fun. I really do hope to repay the board with future posts and hopefully kindle the modeller spirit in others. Smile [:)]

Great job. I assume it is a 1:48 plane and a 1:72 truck, is that true? Look good if it is out of scale. Do we have choices however in 1:48 armor and so forth?

Hi! Thanks!!
Both are 1/72nd scale. I was lucky when i ran across the truck...it's a 5ton truck so it looks large...about 1/3 bigger than a 2.5ton would. I haven't seen many 1/48th trucks and tanks but there some out there.

If I could make one suggestion... you've done a beautiful job weathering the Mitchell but your fuel truck looks fresh off the assembly line?
