My Revell Stearman needed some company, so I built this one for it. Hataka Aggressor Blue C156 and Gunze Mr Color 329 yellow paints. The blue looks close to but a bit darker than the blue on a restored Stearman I used to fly. Don't know which is right, I mixed the blue with Model Master paints for the Stearman. They are probably both right.
And with the Hasegawa P-40N:

Nice John. The two trainers look great together.
Thanks,
Looks great! Haven't seen a Fairchild build in a long time.
I remember as a kid right after the war, there were always some surplus ones at any of the local airports my dad hung out at. Our idea for quality time was taking me to the airport and I could walk the ramp looking at the planes while he hanger flew with his buddies.

Very nice John. I've seen a few trainers at air shows that come around, but never this one. I had the chance to pilot a Stearman at one of those shows as well. Quite an experience!
What did you think about the engineering of this particular kit? Seems simple enough. Were there any fit issues?
On the bench:
Tamiya F4U-1 Kenneth Walsh
That's a beauty, John! Really looks good beside the Stearman, as well.
I think the 'blue and gold' trainer scheme is one of the most attractive color combos ever. And as far as which shade of blue...I recall having seen WW2-era color photos of training bases where multiple shades of blue are visible on adjacent a/c. Manufacturers' specs aside, I think it was much more important to get the birds out the door and on the line than to worry about exact paint shades. Hopefully the inspectors had more pressing matters to occupy their time!
Great work, as always.

Fantastic John! This is one you really don't see very often. Great, clean build.

On deck: Who knows!
It should be remembered that not all restorations are accurate. So what ever color chosen may or may not be totally correct. I sawe a PT-19 in Merced some years ago in an Aluminum color. While most likely accurate, your model is still excellent.

In the last year of the war the Army did start painting their trainers aluminum. It was necessary to paint them aluminum before applying color paint, to better stop UV in sunlight from damaging the cotton fabric. So they finally just left then aluminum and forgo color to cheapen and speed up production.
I had many rides in a silver Stearman given to the CAP as surplus at the end of the war.
Wonderful build! That trainer color scheme is striking and you executed it superbly.
Nice job, John. The West Side CAF here in Houston has a Fairchild that I regularly see flying over my house.
