Still nice considering the age and time they came from. While the Tamiya kit of the FI-103 is nice, how can you not love the older kit?

Right? This was just having some fun with an old kit. Exactly what this hobby is supposed to be about. 

I remember seeing a bunch of the V-1s on concrete pads while I was in basic training at Lackland A.F.B. bacck in 1970.  They had them paint A.F. blue, the same as most A.F. vehicles.

I haven't seen that kit in a ling time and will be looking fo rit at the next modelpalooza contest in October.  It's good to see they kept the flame piece as a option.  Didn't the Hawk kit of the ME-163 also have that option?

They must have moved those  V-1s somewhere else. When I was at Lackland for my sons graduation from Basic Training in May 2016 I saw no such thing on the base. Although there was just about every type of aircraft flown by the Air Force on pads displayed along the major streets, at the museum, and on the parade field.

As far as the Hawk Komet kit goes, I can’t say about the jet flame pieces. Never bought or built that one. I do have the more recent Testors boxing in my stash, but I don’t recall if it has those parts or not.

I must say, I've got a soft spot for those vintage kits.

 Me too Chad. Obviously as I keep on building them from time to time... there will be another vintage kit build from me later this summer...

I also built that kit, but modded it to the piloted version.  I had the Monogram Aviation book on the V-weapons, so I did my best to correct as many faults as I could.  When I brought the finished model to a meeting, some guys looked at it and said “Oh, is that the new Tamiya kit?”  I was so sad that a brand new kit had just come out.  BUT, I did enjoy reworking the Hawk kit, which is what modeling should be all about.

Stikpusher, when I was in basic they moved a F-105 to our barracks and every so ofter we had to go out and polish the aluminum.

They also had a C-119 and a F-89 at the police school near the gate that led to the Medina annex:

There were also several F-84Fs near the school, mostly for use as training aids for the security section.
