Finished 1/32nd Zero
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, April 11, 2004 8:42 PM
Hi all,
I have redone my weathering on my Zero and pretty much totally changed the look of what I had before, at least on the wings. I think it definately looks better than what I had done before. I almost wished I hadn't done any weathering. Before I started on it I had a beautifully done airbrushed zero. I had things masked off really nice, airbrushed the markings which came out great. I like the way it turned out but as of yet I don't have the modeling skills to really make it look all that realistic yet. I am a little disappointed in the overall product but what the heck - I did have one heck of a lot of fun putting the kit together and wouldn't change that for anything.
So, for better or worse here are some quick shots of my finished Zero. These are kind of quick sloppy shots again but shows things pretty well.

Let me know what you think and good modeling,
Wayne

You definitely improved it with your weathering re-do. Having fun is what the hobby is all about and each model you build will be a learning experience. Take what you learned building this one and use that to make the next one even better.

I like your weathering job...It gives your zero alot of character and is much harder to achieve a realistic look then modelling a "mint " condition paintjob.

Look how much weathering I over did on this 1/72 scale "Rex"...

I like it, you really did a great job reworking the weathering!!! I really like how you did the prop blades!!! I'd be real proud of her, if I were you!! You did a great job, had fun, and learned a lot, you can't ask for much more than that!!!

Looks like a good job there. Remember. one learns through one's mistakes, not by getting it perfect every time. All these modelling gurus in here didn't have the knowledge and abilities they have now when they first started. The weathering rehash looks great, and the lessons you learned doing it will be of benefit for future models Bow [bow]

Thanks everyone,
I appreciate all the good words. The more I look at my Zero the more it keeps growing on me. I am definately proud of all the work I put into it. I took the pics immediately after I got done with it and I think I was just in a small state of shock of what I had just done to my original paint job - mainly from lack of modeling experience and not knowing if what I just did really looked any good or not.
After sleeping on it overnight, getting over my initial shock, plus all your nice compliments, I am now very happy with my weathered Zero Big Smile [:D]
I definately will call this one a very good learning experience Wink [;)]
When I get some much better pics I'll post them and let you get a better look.

Thanks again everyone and good modeling,
Wayne

Thanks again guys,
emo07 - That is a really nice looking zero and I love it on that Japanese flag!!!!!
Great idea. I collect WWII memorabilia and have one of those flags too but mine doesn't have any writing on it like yours does. That is sooooo cool!!

Looks good to me.

The weathering looks just right for a japanese plane, scruffy!

Your Zero looks good!Big Smile [:D] There aren't any hard and fast rules for what a weathered model should look like, because the prototypes all looked different. In the world of plastic models, what you imagined that happened to any particular subject is what really happened. Good job!

I think you did a great job.Leave the model in the display case
for a while and I guarantee(i dont think i spelt that rite)you'll
feel better about it later.

Anyhow there is nothing wrong
with feeling a little dissapointed with a model.

All your comments are appreciated and are nice.
The comment earlier about one being his own worst critic....that surely fits Blush [:I]
The more and more I look at my Zero..I love it Thumbs Up [tup]
No two planes weathered and chipped exactly the same so my depiction of a weathered Zero is perfectly plausable.

Thanks everyone
