Book request...
Posted by Jeeves on Monday, April 12, 2004 11:30 AM
As I stated in another post, I have been searching for some Tuskegee schemes for the P-40, P-39, and P-47. I see that Osprey has a volume on 15th AF Thunderbolts- and before I go buying it, I wondered if anyone that has it could tell me if there are Tuskegee schemes in it?? If so, I'll order it online...but I don't want to go through the trouble of ordering it if there aren't any in it.

Also-- the same sort of request for the P-39 and P-40-- are there any books with Tuskegee schemes for these planes??

Thanks in advance....

Hiya Jeeves,

There's nothing in that Osprey book for the 99th FS, but I think that's because the 99th FS was still assigned to the 12th AF when they flew Bolts. I'm really not 100% sure on that, I'll have to grunge about or maybe someone else knows fersher. Off the top of my head, does Osprey publish a similar title for the 12th? I gots to go lookin'...

As to the P-39 & P-40, I can't help much on the P-39. But the P-40 may be a different story, I'll see what I have. I've got a couple books and lotsa misc reference on the 79th FG, so there may be something among all that for the 99th.

The Osprey book 'P-40 Warhawk Aces of the MTO' has one profile of a 99th ship; a P-40L flown by 1Lt. Robert Deiz. I haven't looked closely at the rest of the book to see if there's any additional photos or what-not, but I shall...

Thanks Steve..

I have a pretty good idea of a P-40 scheme "Ace of Pearls", but the pic I have isn't a very straight-on shot...
