Airfix makes various marques of Spitfires in 1/48. Their Mk.V is the oldest from the late 70’s. It was good for its time but was eclipsed by the more recent Hasegawa and Tamiya Mk.Vs. They did a few later kits using thair Mk.V kit as a starting point using new tool parts trees for a mix and match. Their late marque Spitfire and Seafire are completely (then) new tool and unrelated. And they have come out with other new tool early and mid series marques since then. Have a look at Scalemates for the history of any particular kit that catches your eye.

Doesn't Eduard do a nice new tool Mk.IX?

Thanks. I am amazed at how bad most Mk IX kits are. Hasegawa needs a fuselage, ICM needs various bits redone. I don't know anything about the Airfix kit.

It’s a fine kit for a grade school age kid, but not for a serious detail oriented modeler. Raised rivet surface detail, operating landing gear, no cockpit or wheel well detail to speak of.

Anyone know how accurate this kit is? I came across one in a lot of estate kits I purchased. Monogram #6801 which is a re-pop of the 1962 issue ( according to scalemates ). I have other 1/48 mk ix kits and I will sell this one if it's not worth hanging on to.
