Are there actually light and dark versions of Ocean Grey? All I can find is Ocean Grey. Of course I can find all versions of Sea Grey. Light, dark and extra dark. I've been Googling all day and haven't come up with an answer.
I have a Tamiya bubble top P47D that I started several years ago and had to set aside. I recently picked up a set of Kits World decals and decided to do Captain Donovan Smith's "Ole ***" from the 56th FG and light and dark ocean grey are the colors they call for.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Tony
Edit: Oops, guess I can't say that word here. I apologize.

Here's a nice discussion on "Ocean Grey" at Britmodeler.

As they say in the thread, use what looks best.

I can't say that I've ever heard of a light and dark ocean grey. But sea grey came in light, medium, dark, and extra dark shades. The instruction sheet sounds to have an error in terms.
Aside from that, the 56th FG was known for using various RAF colors for their unit applied camo schemes on their NMF P-47s.
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Also "Ocean Gray" was a color used by the USN and closely matched by the Maritime Association in the 30's- 50's. No relation to aircraft colors of the same name.
The Navy color was 5-O.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Yes, RAF Ocean Grey and USN Ocean Gray 5-O are two completely different colors. Not to mention that 5-O was mixed to specs using specified colors in specified amounts and not produced at the paint factory.
Thanks for the replies and information. What was really confusing me were the colors used on the instruction sheet included with the decals. The colors they used have a very blue tint and didn't look like any of the paints I have on hand. But, I don't have light and dark ocean grey and that's what I got hung up on and that's what I concentrated my search on yesterday. For all I knew they might have that pronounced blue tint. Ocean grey I can find and even have in MM, Tamiya and Real Colors. Not really getting hung up on exact shades, just trying to find what looked like the decal sheet shows.
The sea greys I have. They don't match the sheet either. Some of you probably already know this but bear with me, I'm learning.
This morning I concentrated my searching on the actual pilot and aircraft and guess what? Light and dark sea greys should do it. Hehe. I ran across some rather in depth discussions, y'all know how it goes, but most came to this conclusion. Light and dark sea grey. Although some think it's dark sea grey and dark green. I'm going with the greys, and here's why. If the link works.

There was a Project Overlord kit issued by Hasegawa and markings for this aircraft were included. Looks to me like the sea greys are what they used so...
Thanks again for your help.
I'm currently not an airbrusher and use rattle cans for major painting. Tamiya Gunship Gray works great for extra dark sea grey.

I've run across that color match too. Thank you
