What scheme do you want to do on your model? Let's start with that and see what we come up with.

Go to Google, select the "image" option,, and type in Fokker triplane, or Dr1.  You will get a ton of photographs and drawings.  Add the search word drawing or three views and you will likely find several showing different schemes.

You'll want to basically ignore color instructions that came with the kit.

Another useful resource is youtube.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

well i found the colors i want to use, and yes i can see how modeling is an excuse to buy books ive caught myself, and stopping myself from buying said books, just yet, cause ive been out of modeling for 20 years, now im in process of reequipping myself of paints and kits, and all other stuff needed, i chose a design, the cowl is alum, fuselage is all red, tail white, and underside of of fuselage and underside of wings is light blue. wheel hubs are light blue as well. what do you guys think about painting on decals, and not using kit decals? is it tough? i scratch built the cockpit added alum tubing and exhaust , etc. after im finished ill showcase some pics and , hopefully get some helpful and constructive thumbs up, etc. cause as i stated its been a while, life has a funny way of getting in the way of your hobbies!
