YIPPEE P-38 Paint Question
Posted by Timdude on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 8:18 PM

Hi everybody,

My son is building the 1/48 Minicraft P-38 and wants to paint it in the "Yippee" paint scheme. The instructions call for FS12197, which is International Orange. After 2 different stores and an internet search I can't find this color in a scray can. Before I go to the trouble of setting up my air brush for a model that is going to hang from the ceiling, does anybody know if this is even the correct color? And/or is there another color that is a close match?

Thanks Tim

It's not International Orange.  The color Lockheed called it was Vermillion, a red tending toward orange but very red.  The RGB mix is 85.1 red, 21.96 green and 11.76 blue.

Percentages seem to be a little off....adds up to way over 100%.

They are RGB values, which range from 0-255 for each color.  Not percentages, don't know how those marks got there and I have removed them.

Ahhhh, clear as mud, but as an auto painter never learned to tint stuff around.  I was doing completes.  Now everyone knows why.
