Emily, Or not? A short thought

Ah! the Kawanishi " Emily" Flying boat

Anybody that loves the large Seaplanes has to love it. The "Emily', then there's the "Catalina" aircraft. Now travel around a little in Floatable aircraft History books and you will find many beautiful Planes.

Of course we all have heard of the " Spruce Goose" Yeah, Big, for sure. Now that "Emily " sticks in my old mind for one reason.Does anyone know about the "Pan-American World Airways two level, Luxury Flying boats known as the Clippers?

Now look at that "Emily" closely. Can you say imitation is a sincere form of Flattery. Design wise. The " Emily" appears a Militarized Copy of those world famous " Clippers". I have always wondered what the " Emily" would look like civilianized and turned into one of those famous flock of Trans-Pacific Birds!

Look carefully. If you know your Seaplanes, I bet you'll come close to agreeing with me.

I think the resemblance to a Boeing 314 has more to do with a common response to performance requirements.

I'd compare it to the Short Sunderland. The Emily was a really well conceived design and was a key part in japan's strategic interests in the South Pacific.

Two Emilys conducted the second attack on Pearl Harbor in March 1942.

It's predecessor, the Mavis; was used extensively for airline service in the late interwar period.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
