Mig-21MF
Posted by crown r n7 on Sunday, September 27, 2020 7:44 AM

Having some fun with a Mig-21.. I dont know why I started this totally out of the blue. I have a stack of mig-21 decals over the years some new acrylic paints a new compressor or just a reduction of kits.. we will see which road I'll take with this one?

I've nearly 'pulled the trigger' on this kit many times over the years; it'll be interesting to see how it builds out. Great start so far!

Have you picked colors for it yet, out of the many you've got on hand?

Looking forward to watching this one.

I started a MIG a few years back, got hung up on something, then started something else for a group build. Maybe yours might provide some incentive.

I am fond of that turquoise-looking cockpit blue..... Fine start on the cockpit.

There is something to be said for being able to set aside the Zinc Chromate for a while.

That's a really nice NMF by any measure.

tempestJohnny. Its called cockpit turquoise it came in the AK interactive Soviet aircraft colors 1950-1970, its pretty good stuff.

CapnMac82. Yes I have several shades of Russian cockpit blue/green. This one is the most colorfull, it is said it reduces eye fatigue for the pilots instead of black or gray pannels. Thanks its vallejo metal color pretty tough stuff it paits well and masks real good .

That Fishbed is coming along very nicely!

I have the PF version and had a problem with the forward fuselage join “pinching”.  I propped the fuselage up from the inside with a bit of sprue but it didn’t help much.  The speed brake wells also resisted my best attempts to align them.  Did the Bis version have the same issues?

Real G. Yes. I have the same problem with the Mig-21PF with the academy kit, but the 21MF seemed to aline much easier. That is the tricky part of these kits especialy when a nose weight is in place and gluing it to the other half of fuselage.

that nose decal was a little difficult, muiltiple coats of micro sol... I gave a light coat of tamiya gloss clear to seal decals and started pannel wash with tamiya's black pannel wash. All else besides some windy down pure weather and a gout flair up .Lightning

I'm liking acrylics more and more made a mistake on rails sprayed windex the paint just drips off dry part and spray again. I still have a place for enamels.

Latest pics I did do some light streaking with oil paint, next to cut some shine off with some Tamiya clear flat.
