Revell 1/48 P-61 Black Widow, "Midnight Mickey" - Ready For Inspection

Well gents,

It is what it is but she's finally RFI!

Almost a year since I've started the build. :)

It's been uphill all the way with this oldie (the molds are shot completely combined with my average modelling skills), but worth every effort in the end!

I am not satisfied with many aspects, but overall I am happy because I had a lot of fun and learned a lot.

She is OOB, except Uschi lines for the antennae and scratch build tarps for the first time.

As for the tarps, I used them to cover the problems with the fit between the very bad clear parts and the fuselage (a lot of miss-alignments and gaps), which I didn't want to be fixing forever, so they were more of a necessity than a preferred choice. I think that they are too wrinkly and not matte enough. Anyway, I learned something new so next time I will know better. :)

Comments and criticism are more than welcome.

Thanks for looking!

Best,

Nikola

That turned out great!  I have one in the stash and have heard it's a bit of a bear to build.

Thanks,

John

Thanks Keavdog! Appreciated! Very glad that you like how she turned out in the end.

As for the kit, arm yourself with patience for cleaning flesh, filling and sanding, but otherwise it is great fun to build it. Just not for someone with very little free time. :)

Also, make sure to stuff the radome with lead as it is a tail sitter otherwise, no doubt.

Best,

Nikola

Very nice. I love the peeled paint effects on the spinner, props, and cowling. And the preshading around the radome is very effective. Don't undercut your skills, they're admirable.

Great looking model. I like the 'tarps' over the glass areas.

Excellent finish Nikola! So many times this kit is said to be “unbuildable”. You have just shown all of those folks how wrong they are in that assessment. A little creative thinking with some naturally draped tarps was a simple fix on the gaps from aging molds. I look forward to your next project.

Bravo!!!!

Thank you very much for the kind words Stikpusher! Much appreciated! :)

After I finish my current Eduard 1/48  Mirage IIIC build (also with some serious fit issues) I will go with one of HB's easy assembly kits just to do something quick for a change and regain my energy, haha.

Nice job, have always heard bad things about this kit.  Great idea with the tarps.

Well!

When it comes to cars they call them barn Finds. What you presented to us appears to be a very nice old Hangar find. Wonderful work on the old Lady !
