Off to a great start. Interested to see how you tackle the paint job on the cowl.

Hello!

I like this photo a lot:

Johannes Steinhoff

It's easy to be tough BEFORE you crash and burn... Try the same AFTERWARDS!

That Messerschmitt sure is looking good - like many your builds before! Thanks for sharing and have a ncie day

Back to the Luftwaffe. It's time to build one of the mounts of the venerable Johannes "Macky" Steinhoff, a 176-victory ace, who survived the war and was a West German Luftwaffe general during the cold war.

Thanks to Lawdog, I was able to get a decal set from Pössum Werks featuring four of Steinhoff's 109s. I chose the G-2 from when Steinhoff was in command of II./JG 52 in Southern Russia in August of 1942.

The plan is to build the Eduard kit straight from the box using Mr. Color paints. The scheme is quite interesting as it features an engine cover full of small dabs of paint and a spinner with offset colored sections. The profile included in the decals calls for RLM 76 on the cowl and RLM 71 dots.  Other profiles I found during my research suggest the cowl was yellow with RLM 70 dots. I'm going with the latter since it seems more plausible that JG 52 wanted to tone down the yellow noses to improve camo when on the ground.

There are also conflicting viewpoints on the color of the fuselage band (yellow or white) and on the color of the spinner sections (red or green). I'll go with a yellow band and I'm thinking the red spinner section will look snappy.

The office is complete.
