This was a present made last year for a mates 40th, he was a Royal Marines commando and said these always flew overhead on operations. He talked a lot about the plane and he loved the model. He was supposed to have been going on holiday for 2 weeks but it was cancelled due to lockdown and his birthday party was brought forward so instead of 3 weeks I had 1 week to make this I'm not joking. The kit fortunately was great and went together well. The canopy I broke and went online looking for a replacement and couldn't believe it when there actually was one available it's called Have Glass AFV do it for a few kits and luckiny this is one. It looks purple in some lights and perfectly clear in others. The Avenger Cannon has 2 muzzles so it can be displayed outside the aircraft. I used polyfilla to make the concrete for the airfield Tamiya rubber black for the gaps between the paving and my girlfriend painted the figures and made the ground equipment from Hasegawa. It was satisfying to build a model that turned out so well against such a deadline but man it was a slog. It's now on display in his house and he loves it which is all I can hope for when making a present like this. I hope.you guys like it its the first time I did black basing and I'll.be doing it on all grey planes from here on.

I forgot to add this photo in as when I mentioned about that the HAVE glass for the model.was available and I needed a replacement I said it has a purplish sheen in some lights well here's a picture showing that. It looks great although I've no idea what HAVE glass is however it was a direct mould copy of the kit part so the fit was exact so if you want this type of canopy on your model it'll be the same as the kit part but with this colour running through it.

Thanks Mike, I honestly don't  know how I did it and it was my best build to date I guess pressure can bring about results lol. He was really pleased with it in the Hasegawa ground crew set there is a guy with a beret for some reason so I painted this to look like a Marine with his green beret it's the figure next to the cannon. Pretty sure I've posted that picture if I've not I'll do it.

Turns out I hadn't so here it is haha the figure really gives a sense of how massive the A-10s main weapon is.

Had the pleasure of meeting some Royal Marines many years ago in Quantico.  That is one squared away kick ass group!

Yeah they are I always felt rubbish serving with them lol my mate was Navy with me and then he transferred the funny thing is because of a lack of social media when I left I never saw him for 10 years then a message out of the blue and turn out he was 20 minutes down the road from me, crazy. He has some models but he's not been infected with the model building bug like me hahaha.

It is for sure but on modelling this all I can say is what a brilliant model the kit is not even expensive I'm thinking of getting one for myself the paint guide only has a European One colour scheme like the F-4G Phantoms but the decals in the box worked with the grey scheme. If you so get this kit and if you like the A-10 I recommend you do is that keep the gun out of the model and use the space for weights as this plane will sit on its tail I mean it's very tail heavy. I don't know the amount of weight needed but I always rest a suspected tail sitter on my finger or a pencil where the rear landing gear is and if it tips forwards then you're ok.

Thats a lovely looking A-10, very nicely done. I used to like seeing these over ehad when they were based at Bentwaters in the 80's.

No way the Americans had these in the UK? Never knew that, a mate who was in the British Army who was based in Berlin in the 80s said they flew overhead a lot which makes sense as it was build specifically for the fulda gap as far as I am aware or it was a primary mission. I guess these things are everywhere lol.I just hope America keeps using them I can't believe nobody else bought them.

Ye, they were based at Benwaters and Woodbridge from the late 70's to the early 90's. I know the guys who run the Bentwaters Cold War museum and they managed to get hold of an A-10 a couple of years ago that they have been renovating. They are in the same model club as i am.

Amazing is it going to be restored to a static display or airworthy?

It will just be static i think. They do have a Jaguar they are going to have as a ground runner.

Ah man so it'll go along the ground just I gotta say I've seen Bucs and Lightnings do that no offence but that's like someone starting a Ferrari and not driving It, drives me crazy lol they belong in the sky I know there's probably licences and certificates required costing thousands but hell it's better plus with the internet it wouldn't be hard to get the cash plus an ex pilot or two. Sorry just speaking my mind there lol.

I think there are also issues with airframes and things like that. Plus theres the cost and time to get it air worthy. its taken to get it ground running. These small museums rely on volunteers and donations. The aircraft had been in service for 20 years and then storage for 10 before they got hold of it. Even the BBMF are vareful about when they fly, and they have full time RAF crews working on them.

I would love to see Jag's flying again, i grew up in Norwich, not that far from Coltishall, and it was a real shame when they were retired.

I have the Tamiya kit in my stash.  Have always thought the Jaguar was a cool plane.  I have the Hasegawa kit in line to build.
