Supermarine Seafire in the Mediterranean?
Posted by davenport49 on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 8:23 AM

Does anyone know whether the Supermarine Seafire was involved in the defense of Malta, such as convoy protection?  I would appreciate any information available.

The Seafire first saw action during Operation Torch. This was the same month the Siege of Malta ended. So Spitfires yes, Seafires, i doubt it. But they were used in the Scicily and Italian campaigns.

I have James Holland's excellent book "Fortress Malta", but couldn't remember it containing any reference to Seafires.  I checked the index but, while Sea Gladiators are listed, there's nothing for Seafires.

Vell, Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?

Thanks to all for your assist.  Further digging on the web suggested you're probably correct that they came too late for Malta.

So, I'm moving on to another option.  Please check it out......
