Keyda81;

       Well, It seems you pulled a silk purse out of a sows ear. Nice job. I like the colors. Are these the C.A.G. Birds?

Thanks Eaglecash!  I have heard their kits are kind of hit or miss.  Hoping the other two I have in the stash are a little better.  My biggest gripe I think is the instructions.  They are very lacking.  One part of the landing gear door arm was three pieces, they just showed it already assembled.  There was no small section with a sub assembly of how those 3 pieces went together.  I figured it out, but still.

Thanks Shipwreck!  I tend not to pay too much attention as to where the kit was made, lol.  The box art drew me in!  It's certainly not the worst kit I've done, it was far less aggravating than several kits I've done in the past, but being the first kit of theirs that I've done, I wasn't impressed.

You have a way of being able to make something out of nothing. Good job! When I was in China, a Chinese friend taught me to avoid Chinese manufacturing!

Despite the issues, you pulled off another great build Keyda.  The problems you noticed seem to be pervasive in the kits from Chinese manufacturers.  There are parts that are excellent (I used the fantastic weapons bay from a HobbyBoss EF-111A to modify the Minicraft FB-111A I'm still working on getting back to and finishing), and a lot of parts that are either completely devoid of detail (Trumpeter 1/32 A-10A cockpit), or with blocky, exagerrated detail (Hobby Boss 1/48 EF-111A cockpit, Kittyhawk 1/48 AH-1Z cockpit).  They seem to have different teams working the various aspects of a kit, and some seem to be much more skilled than others.  As long as there are other resources to draw from though, they do provide a pretty good base that can be massaged into a great-looking model...as we can see from your pics.

Pulled this one out of the stash since I used my old Revell build as a paint mule.  This is the first kit by Hobby Boss that I have done, and I have to say I'm not impressed.  The instructions were lacking big time.  They didn't call out paint colors for a lot of parts.  Most kits will call out a few different colors for the cockpit, this one literally only gray.

The load out I found out afterwards was pictured wrong.  I should of just looked up pictures, but at that point I just wanted it off my bench.  I had a heck of a time trying to fit the armament in there.

The decals were also quite brittle, some tried to curl as soon as I took them off the backing.  The intake decals weren't even readable.  It was like the red ink bleed when they were printed, so I pulled some from the spares bin.

On the plus side, the fit wasn't bad.  I only really had to take care of the main fuselage seam.  The armament fit was a bit crappy though.  Better than the Revell kit I built a couple years at least.  I still may pick up the Hasegawa kit one of these days and do that one.  I kind of like how you can fold the wings with that one.  I did have that kit, bought second hand, but it was missing some major pieces.

Anyway, a few pics.

Still waiting on my Hornet to arrive in the mail, don't even have an estimated delivery date.  So I'll have to decide if I'm going to keep building Navy birds while I wait.  I've got several more in the stash, Crusader, Demon, Fury, F4U Corsair, Skyraider, and possibly a couple more I'm forgetting.
