Academy 1/48 F-117

I am starting the Academy kit. I will be using the large American flag logo that is supplied with the kit.

I am going to be painting it with Krylon flat black.  I would like to know if the Krylon flat black, then sprayed with gloss coat before applying the decal will work without any adverse effects?

If Krylon is available in gloss, I'd go with that personally.

Hi;

 I would go with Krylon Gloss Black then a mist coat of Clear Semi-Gloss over it AFTER the decals are on.

Thank you straycat and tanker-builder.

The gloss black would be good for applying the large decal.

However I think the flat dull coat would be best considering this aircraft being stealth would not have any type of shine to it.

While the Hawk is basically black, a 1/48 model would not represent the aircraft if painted true black.

Anything "black" at scale looks dark gray in sunlight. In this case, a very cool gray such as the color called "anthracite" which is a sort of metallic color and not reall dark because the minor inregularity in the finish coat reflects a lot of sunlight.

Also, Krylon is not quality paint. I would suggest a Testors spray can, or if you have an airbrush; NATO black color.

Hi Bill,

running with your suggestion of anthracite I did some googling and found this..

AK Interactive #AKI-11167 Anthracite Grey Acrylic Paint.

I ordered a bottle and I'm going to do a test to see how it looks.

after looking at photos and yours I agree that the Anthracite might be the best bet.

Thank you
