Best current 1:48 Super Hornet

In the absence of a new release from Tamiya, it looks like the front runner in most articles is the Hasegawa.  Both the E and F were released in 2005, so I'm guessing similar in terms of detail.

Any other more recent introductions that are worthy of consideration?

Thanks

I read that the new Meng is a contender,I also recall that the Revell that came out around the same time is a decent kit,FSM did a side by side many years ago.

^^^^^

I have no experience with Meng kits.  Where do they fall in the hierarchy of quality?

Well, I can tell you that they make excellent armor kits, have had no issues, but I never tried their ships or planes.Have you Googled reviews and builds of the choices out there.

Very good, clean molds slide mold tech for stuff. I have built thier armor stuff and found it to be exellent in fit as well as not having an overwhelming parts count. Never touched one of thier aircraft so.... One thing is fully understand your instructions, follow them step by step, and almost any difficulty will be builder caused. If you build it please let us know how it goes for you.

I'm just about done with the Meng kit.  Couldn't wait to start it when it 1st came out.  It's been a real plesure.  Fit is outstanding, decals are heavenly (Even include markings for Maverick's F-18 in the new Top Gun).  The weapons are nice and it uses metal pegs with poly caps to make things easier to mount.  Includes canopy masks and a nice little pilot.

It was far easier to build than any of the Hasegawa line of F-18s I've built over the years, but I did find the Hasegawa had better detail in the cockpit.  The Meng gives you decals to place over raised detail.  I used them and they settled nicely, but it doesn't look as good as a nice paint job. The seat is a bit basic, with no belts.  I opted to have mine piloted since the cockpit decals are for a jet in motion.

Just put the Meng Hornet on the wishlist.  There are many 1/48 Hornet kits out there.  Based on Discos review and other internet chatter it seems like a great kit.
