Mine is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow.  It may have to wait in the box for a while until I figure out a strategy for painting in all the detail.  Looks like plenty of tiny brush work under magnification.  Fun!!

I have the Zoukei Mura F-4E, which is amazing, but I just know that the Tamiya F-4B will be easier to build, yet have similar detail.  It's a Tamiya.  It's what they do.

I haven't bought anything aftermarket for mine (yet), but curious as to the advantages of Quinta vs Eduard.   I've got a couple of Big Ed sets in the stash for other projects.  

Gotta say, it's a beautiful kit.  Too bad I don't trust Tamiya decals.  Probably going to pilfer the Academy set for some colorful markings.

But man, can Tamiya engineer a kit.

It's interesting to see the different approaches.  I've done 1 of the ZM kits and found it heavenly.  I'm curious to see how Big T goes together.

I haven't bought anything aftermarket for mine (yet), but curious as to the advantages of Quinta vs Eduard.   I've got a couple of Big Ed sets in the stash for other projects.  

 

Quinta Studio cockpit sets are 3D printed, color decals.  They give you the depth of knobs, switches, etc. that Eduard PE just can't match.  Each instrument also has a clear inlay that looks like glass.  As I found with the 1/72 F/A-16B that I'm building, Eduard does just fine at 1/72 scale, but 1/48 and larger they just don't have much depth to them.

Here's an idea of what they look like.  My 1/32 Su-25M1 cockpit is heavily modified and is a hybrid of Aires, Quinta Studio 3D decals, and various scratch-built mods to make it look like an actual Su-25M1 cockpit rather than the standard Su-25K.

I'm with you on the Tamiya decals.  Its definitely the one area they come up short.  I'm looking at getting some aftermarket decals to turn it into a Marine Corps Rhino.

Nice work on that SU-25, and I totally agree with you regarding Quinta 3D decals versus Big Ed. I have used both but we are comparing two different products. While Eduard is a highly detail painted flat non-deminsional PE; Quinta is fully 3D printed with great detail by layering the detail with the proper releif for knobs, buttons, switches, instrument rings and glass, etc. To me, anything 1/48 or larger really benefits from the 3D decals (IMHO).

Oh! I also have two of the older Phantoms still in the box. I will wait for the bulk saturation in the markerplace for prices to drop along with checking out the photos all of you provide to see if I really need another one.

I'm about to try these "Decals" on an ME-262, any tips?  Does the surface need to be glossed?  I can't imagine you'd want to use any solvents because of the detail.

Quinta Studio tells you to soak the decal in water and then apply directly to the surface.  It has its own adhesive similar to a regular decal.  But, what I ended up doing is to do the soak, remove the decal I want, and place it upside-down on a paper towel to let it dry.  When its dry, I attach it to the model using epoxy for the larger parts, Future for the little parts that mount on a major dimension (I mounted the tiny placards on the ejection seat with Future), and CA for the little parts (like the ejection handles in my pic) that have more of an edge mount.  Just think of them as super thin pieces of flexible plastic.  Its pretty much what they are.  

Those things look awesome, a little pricey for 1/32 but awesome
