Can anyone recommend a decent B-17G kit to build? Revell and Monogram seem to have quite a few choices in 1/48, but I cant believe theyre all equally good. Are their other manufacturers? I'm looking for one that's a good fit, minimal sanding and filling, and accurate but not necc dead-on. Thx
Basicly there are only two 1/48 B-17G kits out there: the 70's vintage Monogram kit, that has been reboxed under many other labels; the new tool 2019 vintage HK kit that is released strictly under their label, and costs many times more than the Revellogram kit.

I built the Revellogram kit a few years ago. It went together without too many issues. The only real issue is the full length seam in the fuselage. My opinion is that it is a pretty decent kit.
Your comments and questions are always welcome.
It's a shame that this important aircraft hasn't been kitted in 1/48 scale by more manufacturers over the years. I've seen several youtube videos on the HK kit, and while positive and most agree that it's just a scaled down version of their 1/32 B-17G, most of those builders agree that it's not that much better than the old Monogram/Revell kit, especially when you factor in the cost differences. I know that I've got a Revell/Monogram B-17F and G in the stash and I'm not going to buy any other kits.

The old Revell/Monogram G model isn't all that bad. Much better than the F model kit. The F model kit lacks a lot of interior detail. I had the intention to build the F model and make a "Mini Movie Memphis Belle". But upon opening the F model kit I was disapointed. I landed up using a lot of parts from the G model kit to make up for what the other kit was lacking.

The 5 B-17's used in filming the movie were G models so the Monogram G would be a better source for a movie model.
WIP: Monogram 1/72 B-26 (Snaptite) as 73rd BS B-26, 40-1408, torpedo bomber attempt on Ryujo
Monogram 1/72 B-26 (Snaptite) as 22nd BG B-26, 7-Mile Drome, New Guinea
Minicraft 1/72 B-24D as LB-30, AL-613, "Tough Boy", 28th Composite Group
Since most every airworthy 17 is a "G", that makes sense, for a movie. Hollywood license to make things work.
Keyda was building a mini Belle, and staying true to her, and it was an "F"
And she did a great job on it.
