RLM 82 and 83 on FW 190D, JV44
Posted by nmayhew on Monday, April 19, 2004 3:56 PM
hi guys,
i know this is v v obscure, but can anyone help me please?Smile [:)]
i have TALLY HO's "Papagei Staffe JV44" decal sheet (no. 48001), and am trying to do Hptm Klaus Faber's D-9.
the top side colours are described as RLM 75 grey violet (correct) and RLM 83 dark green- problem: i have RLM 83 as light green, and so does polly scale.
the diagram is in black and white but would seem to indicate that the clour is darker than RLM 75, hence RLM 82 dark green.
below is the best link to this diagram i could find...

http://www.tallyho.cz/w72003n.html

so do i just ignore their numbering and go with the dark green?
does anyone know JV44 colours to advise?
i've gone to a lot of trouble masking the underside to get all those stripes looking goodBig Smile [:D], it seems a shame to get the wrong topside colour.
i have even got my czech girlfriend to mail them in their native czech, and she tried calling them but we have not got any responseDisapprove [V]Disapprove [V]Disapprove [V], so i'm coming to you guys!!Wink [;)]
surprise me with the number of responses i get for this!!Disapprove [V]

This has been a problem for a while, but its just a matter of numbers. Years ago, a source mislabeled RLM 82 as Dark Green, and RLM 83 as Light Green. This mis-numbering was followed by many manufacturers, but is incorrect. This is information that I got from an Eagle Cals sheet, and I've since read it elsewhere.

This is what it actually is:
RLM 82 = Light Green
RLM 83 = Dark Green.

Ignore the numbers and use the Dark Green. (Model Master also made the same mistake)

Hello nmayhew
Is this a coincidense or what?!? Shock [:O]
TODAY! I started painting my Dora, rote 1, lt.Heinz sachsenberg. Mine is tamiya so I get three aircraft in one box.Evil [}:)]

Now I have Polly scale and testors model master paint and yes the nombers are switched. So RLM 82 is dark green and RLM 83 is light green.
Note, the "patch" under the red 13 is RLM 02.
On red 13 you dont need RLM 82 light green. you should use RLM 75 grauviolet. and you should use the normal canopy, not the blown one.
There are many links at google. just type JV-44. or Jagdverband 44.

Xtracolour also got it wrong. RML82 is light green, RLM83 is dark green. They continue to perpetuate this error, when it would be a simple matter of swapping tinlets, and altering the Hannants catalogue, to correct it

Well, even the German aircraft manufacturers during WWII got it wrong with some calling RLM82 Dunkelgrun.

Nick, I checked the colour chart for the Revell kit, Red 4, and that shows upper surface camo in RLM 81 & 74.

Bit different to the standard 82/83 combination.

hmmm...that's diff to what the tally ho set has...they have RLM 81 and RLM 82 (but the latter colour is one of those i'm having all the probs with, so maybe it's RLM 83?); re my aircraft, i'm building red 13 (faber).
