At one point, I had started abuild of Trumpeter's 1/72 scale version of the Foxhound, but then set it aside, and through a series of mis-adventures and unfortunate events, the kit was damaged and parts missing. The remains of the kit are relegated to the "parts" storage area.
I still wanted to build a Foxhound but found the cost of replacing the kit to be very high, so I opted to go to the Zvezda version, as it was much less expensive. I have their Su-27 Flanker kit, and it is a very good kit with lots of detail and well molded, with 300+ parts. I based my choice according to that.
When I received the kit, I found it to be disappointing! It does not have a huge number of parts, and it is a very basic build. Panel lines are very exagerated and huge. Cockpit also very basic, and allows you to see into the fuselage, also no ducting for the intakes, also allowing a veiw into the open fuselage. Exhaust is represented by a flat plate with a couple of cones to represent the engines! Lots of flash and some fit issues!
I have been moving forward with this build in spite of all that, but got it in my head I wanted another Mig. I found an Ebay seller who had the Trumpeter Mig-31B/BM version, at a much lower price than SB. With shipping price it came out at about the same as SB's before shipping cost. I dropped dime though I regret spending the money. It's supposed to be delivered today, but the postman has been and gone so I doubt that.
Has anyone else built the Zvezda version? It appears to be an old molding and I undertand that there are other kit manufactures who offer reboxed versions of this same kit.
