Always enjoy seeing the 'Bug' in CAF markings. Looks like a fine build & finish to my eye. YesBeerYesBeer

I would agree with the other guys.  Looking pretty good.  The canopy looks a little shallow compared to the real jet but that's the kit and not on you.

Hi, Splatter -

I strained my eyes, trying to find the flaws you described about your build. Found nothing but a really well built and finished model, that you can display with self satisfaction and pride.

Super good job, I'm hoping to see more of your builds, thanks for the post and photos.

Tamiya 1/72 F/A-18 as CF-188

My first model in 30+ years. There were a lot of firsts; using an airbrush, putty, epoxy putty, decal setter so it was a good learning experience.

It was definately a comedy of errors in construction. Broke off bits with ham fisted handling, bits falling off because I didn't use enough glue, paint pebbling, glue puddles because I used too much glue...

Everything is straight out of the box including the colour scheme. The kit is old and the decals for the CF-188 version are circa late 80's / early 90's.

Flecks of white paint got into the cockpit, presumably when I was airbrushing the wheel wells which is a bit disappointing. Having said that, the cockpit painting I did is pretty horrid so the flecks help cover it up.

I used Tamiya's Mark Fit (regular not strong) for the decal setter. I've seen posts on the interwebs saying the regular version is little better than water but I think it worked pretty well. I assume it gives you a bit more time to fiddle with placement as well before the decals get too soft.

I was going to try some extra detailing and weathering but decided to go with some good advice I got on here about not having to go whole hog first time out.

Thanks for looking. Any critiques or tips are welcome.
