                        Some of you older guys may remember that back in the late 50's,early 60's when Monogram had in its Speedee Bilt line had both a B-17 and a B-24 in 1/28th scale (if I remember correctly). Kits were about 85 percent balsa and 15 percent plastic. Came with glue, Dope (OD and Gray), sanding sealer and sand paper. I was lucky enough to be given the B-24 for my birthday and bought the B-17. One took up the top of my chest of drawers and the other took up the top of my brothers.

                        I'm just waiting to see two things:

                        1. The actual release of such a kit by Panda.
                        2. What kind of detail it will have.

                        While Trumpeter has a pretty good track record for releasing what it advertises, I haven't seen anything lately from Panda. Where's the 1/35 CH-47 they've been promising forever?

                        The chunky & clunky detail I've seen with their releases to date doesn't excite me too much, either. Of course I won't judge any release until I actually see it, but they're not going to sell me a B-17 on size alone.

                        As far as space goes, with aircraft, you have an entire ceiling available to hang 'em! So unless you've already got a bit of an aluminum overcast in your home, space shouldn't be a problem!Wink [;)]

                        Hey!
                        While we are on the subject of "large" scale aircraft, how about a 1/24 PBY-6A, or a 1/32 C-47, with optional parts for the AC-47 variant. But seriously, a 1/32 B-17 sounds great for a museum, but for a regular modeler, well to each their own.

                        Got a great deal on a used Air Force Base, only been used by one owner. Great modelling storage in the old hangars. Might hold two or three of those!!! :)

                        Holy Aluminum Overcast, Batman! 1/32 B-17 is gonna be gihugeic. Can't wait, I'll take one as soon as they are out. Who needs a car anyways. Any takers on the detail sets?

                        Hehe, the B-36 never had a retail price that was "released" to the public, but it was made known that the kit was going to be released in installments! (Forward fuselage, mid, rear, outer left wing, inner...) Tongue [:P]Wink [;)]

                        Funny that you mention a 1/16 B-36. Years back, when MPM did their 1/16 (or was it 1/18?) Me 262, I wrote an article for our club newsletter (as an April Fool's Day joke) about a "new" company called LAERTON from Ecalpon, MI that was releasing 1/16 aircraft kits. One of the releases was a B-36! Tongue [:P]

                        I'll have to dig that out and maybe post it either here or on my website. I fooled only a couple of folks, but it was an absolutely hilarious story. Come to think of it, I wrote it for my own newsletter that I and a pal were publishing at the time, but then gave it to the club editor for an April issue. Hmmm...it's almost April again... Tongue [:P]Wink [;)]

                        By the way, take the name of the company and the name of the town and spell them backwards!

                        That would be the electric RC 6 Ch 1/24 scale B-17 that the owner of an local Hobby Town. 7 minutes of flight.

                        Sounds interesting.

                        * I would have been very happy with updated and more accurate B-17 in 1/48 scale. OH WELL!

                        Now on the other hand Revell of Germany's 1/72 scale U-boat is JUST RIGHT! That can go on a wall scaunt type thingy.Tongue [:P]

                        How big is too big? From an economist point of view, very few modelers could afford such a large kit, let alone decide to build it. I would imagine this being a low volume seller, further increasing the price.

                        To each his own however. I am glad someone has the Gahones to manufacture such a kit. I'm also glad to see some of their other 1/32 offerings. Maybe this will kick off a trend amoung the industry of greater offerings in 1/32.

                        Yeah, the longer the list of "future releases" the longer we'll have to wait, logically. Of course this depends upon the timeframe of development for the kits. Perhaps they've already been in the works for some time and Panda are now just announcing them. Always take every possibility under consideration...

                        Also, Panda and Trumpeter have been tied to each other. And it would seem that if they are not the same company altogether then they may, at the least, be in cahoots. Trumpeter has a decent history of actually releasing the kits promised so, given the apparent ties to Panda, hopefully the latter will follow suit.

                        I just posted this over on the Helicopter subject. But if you go to their web site the only future release Panda shows is the Arleigh Burke. They are long on "future releases" according to this site. It may be a long wait for these releases.
