Okay, so right off of my USS Defiant build, I am going to roll right into this wonderful F-14D by Revell, which is the old Monogram mold. I must enjoy torturing myself... I mean really, the pilot for this bad boy! Add to that, I also threw in another pilot from an old OA-4M kit by Monogram. To say the detail is soft... vast understatement! Then again, this is meant to be a fun build so let's roll with it. Enjoy everyone.
Current build: 1/48 Monogram A-1H & AMT Jedi Starfighter.
Completed: 1/48 Monogram/Revell P-61B, 1/32 Hasegawa F6F-5, 1/48 Hasegawa F-16C, 1/48 Revell Mig-21PFM, 1/48 Revell/Monogram AH-64A, Revell/Monogram 1/48 F-14D, AMT 1/420 USS Defiant, AMT 1/650(?) USS Enterprise, 1/72 Bandai VF-1J, AMT 1/537 USS Reliant, Academy 1/35 M1-A1 Abrams, Academy 1/48 F-86F30, Linbergh's USS Gato
Interesting I've heard a lot of complaints about this kit in the past but never about the pilot detail. Also you didn't do yourself any favors by getting the revell boxing I only build the original boxing from monogram since the molds were better back then..
Your cockpit is looking good btw!

Thank you. I don't mind the reboxing, what flash there is with the kit is to deal with. Plus it does provide new engine details that are updated. Looking forward to that.
What decals are you goinmg to be using?
So far I will be building this as NK200, the decals that came with the kit.
Had the chance to work on the Tomcat. Feel like I am all over the place between painting in sections, building, and trying to layout where I am going to put the post to build this model in-flight. Looks like it will be in between the pallts for the Phoenix missiles. Well enough words, enjoy the pictures.
Looking good so far. Is this the release that comes with all the ordnance and pods for air to ground role, or the one that comes with only the classic air to air load out?
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

No, just the classic air to air load out.
A little more work. I have the top color of the wings sprayed on. Will be getting the bottom color in a bit then onto weathering before I close up the feuselage and start all over with the rest of the colors. Since my airbrush can't spray tight enough do marbling I was able to achieve something like it, yet I can't seem to detrmine if the black poking through is good, or do I need to spray more. Any suggestions Iam open to...
Looking good. Keep up the great work.
Very nice work! Look forward to seeing the finished bird.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.
Just a little bit more work done. Plan is to paint, seal, and weather the wings seperate from the fuselage so I can get to the places that will be covered once everything is together. Also was able to use a pilot from my Monogram OA-4M kit, had to do some surgery to get the legs to fit... not pretty.
Looking good;however I'm gonna be embarrassed if you finish yours before me. Been working on mine, off and on, for probably 5 or 6 years now
Yep its looking like a tomcat. I worked on the A's and B's in the early 80's . I was an ordnanceman for VF-33 out of NAS Oceana and on board the USS America. We only carried the air to air missiles and a 20mm gun system.
Now that is awesome! Would have loved to have seen that.
cbaltrin Looking good;however I'm gonna be embarrassed if you finish yours before me. Been working on mine, off and on, for probably 5 or 6 years now
Working at this pace because I was informed I might have to reduce the stash... build or throw away. Guess which option I selected! :)
Great choice you made.It was great. I did it for 2 years. Loved every second of it. And I miss it now. Not sure what I miss more the planes or the people or the time on the ship or all the above.
Okay, so the wings are weathered... I think???? Weathering is not my strong point at all and I stress that it doesn't look like what I see from other user's builds. So any tips would be greatly appreciated. I do know I still have to weather where the wings swing up against the body, but that is after I put the fuselage together.
Fuselage closed up, painted the missiles and the canopy frames. No comment on the nice long seam down the middle needing putty.
Its coming along nicely. The missiles are looking good also.
I promise I am still alive, just wanted to post when I had something a litle more substantial to show. Almost done with the ordinance. Just the brown and yellow strieps and then some cleaning up and weathering. I am in the process of cleaning up the seams that are quite even and attempting to make them flush. So, enjoy.
I am still alive, honest! I am calling the completion of the weapons done. Driving myself crazy trying to work on all of the masking. for the plane itself, I will be going over some sanding then I should be ready for priming.
More images to show. Almost done with the painting. Just need to do some touch ups then it's off to decaling.
Painting and decaling done. Images are not the best, but enjoy. Next step weathering.
Yup, that looks like an F-14 alright. Very nice. Can't go wrong with the cat.

Looking good.
85% done with weathering. Still new to doing this, so not necessarily the best, but happy with it. Also noticed that once I startgetting urned out on a build, to do something else. The mistakes are obvious they make me cringe, yet I am happy with how it is coming out.
Replacement canopy/screen arrived! Thank you Revell-Germany I am calling her done, though I still feel it looks a little rough, but thats how we get better, correct?
