Hello!

For a navy aircraft I'd just pencil the lines in with a needle-sharp pencil, and use the wash just for the belly of the aircraft, that is always most dirty. You can also smudge the pencil marks a little with enamel thinner - in cas you didn't know...

As for the sludge wash I was always making it out of acrylic paint and dishwashing liquid. The dishwashing liquid made it semi-permanent - I mean possible to be wiped away later.

Hope it helps - have a nice day!

If you ever want to, you can order them from a place in the US I know of.  They're called High Altitude Hobbies, and they're in Leadville, Colorado.  Just an extra option for you if you decide to try Flory at some point.

So basically as long as the enamel is sealed with future (or other suitable products) I can put an acrylic or enamel wash.

Unfortunately I don't think anyone carries Flory products in Toronto Canada.

I mix just a bit of brown with black, then add thinner to get the consistancy I want.

Just go with Flory washes.  I used their Grime Wash on the F-4B I'm building, which is going to be very similar, color-wise, to an A-4E.  It looks good, and you don't have to worry about it damaging your paint.

I have a A-7E corsair that is painted with Mr Hobby/Mr Color enamal paint.  It is sealed with Future.

I now want to add a sludge wash (enamal or acrylic based) to fill in the panel lines and accentuate detail

What do I use for the sludge wash.  Can I just use the retail enamel based washes without thining them with thinner...apply the wash,,,wait about 15 to 30 minutes...and then wipe off with a mixture of dry and damp cloth that has been dipped in enamel thinner.

Or

Since it is sealed with Future, can I use an acrylic based sludge wash.  Of course I would add some dish soap to break the tension.

And for bonus points.

What ratio of pigment to thinner would be best for an enamal sludge wash....and what ratio of acrylic pigment to water is besed if I go the acrylic route.

Thanks
