Hiya!
Listen, I was digging out some LEGO parts for my neighbor to use and what falls on my head? A box full of multi media aircraft kit labeled the "Boat" Well, all I had done was Tape the fuselage halves and top together to see what it would look like. Amazing airplane here. It is a model of one of the unarmed survivors of Pearl Harbor. I guess it was Fate or Serendipity, call it what you will. All the Seaplanes at Pearl Survived that day to patrol, looking for Imperial Japanese Ships, Unarmed!
Remember they were called "Baby Clippers" Intended to do the short runs the Big "Panama-Clippers" were too costly for and the short jaunts between Cuba and Florida and the Islands were perfect! The story of how they quickly got airborne with Marines and Sailors in their P.Js and Skivvies armed with B.A.R.s and Thompson Machine Guns was ludricus at best, But it did result in some info coming back. These ungainly birds did what they had too. The Model, Primarily 1-J-1 was the lead plane at Pearl. She still survives to this day!
I decided I am going to try my camera and stuff and Build this for the Floats and Boats like the Cessna. This way I will squelch the rumor that i am too dumb to figure it all out! LOL,LOL. The Kit is 1/72 scale and even then it's a large-ish plane. The fuselage is smooth as a baby's Butt! I don't think I can do all the panel lines and stuff. A lot was Fabric especially that super-Sized early B-17 type tail. The photos of the specific aircraft are great, but she's very rough. They were taken BEFORE any reatoration was really begun! She does have a full interior so we'll see. I like the colorful yellow topped Wings, Moss Green Empennage and Dull Silver fuselage and Painted Rings on the cowl fronts. She will be the best I can do in the scale. So, coming up---The "Boat".
The only thing I may have to do is get a new Sim Card for the Camera! That'll be next Payday. I will pick up some Backdrop Poster board in Black and Mauve or Lt.Buff for the Picture Taking. No cluttered Background here! This is a Model that could really be done justice with in 1/48. Because, she's got neat stuff that would be fun to show off!
