Looks great.

Very cool build PatW.! (I also like the VW bus kit underneath it) Is that the Aurora kit?  My parents lived near the airport in Milwaukee in the 1960s and they always talked about all of the "Boxcars" landing and taking off during the day and night.  Someday I want to get the 1/72 Italeri kit of the gunship version of this aircraft.

Hi Pat!

Hey, is that the Aurora Kit? Kinda looks like it. A real oldie but Goodie. Nice work so far! The C-119 was always my favorite after seeing the Movie"Flight of the Phoenix"!

Because of it's rarity, I guess that's why we have not seen conversions to the "Phoenix" version!

Thanks guys, yes it's the Aurora kit, in(some say) 1/72 others say 1/77?

Tanker Builder it's interesting  you mention the Flight of the Phoenix, someone else is building one from this kit!

The earlier ones (C-119) had the R4360 engines.

The aircraft in the original movie is a C-82 Packet. However, close enough.

Good Hardy Kruger movie.

I'd sure like to see one done up like the one in the original movie.

Just finished, showing the aircraft and the two smaller items that came with the kit, a Jeep and a Field Gun. The rear doors have rubber hinges so rest partially open.

PatW, it turned out awesome!  A nice clean build of a classic vintage kit.  I wish that more people would invest some TLC into these classic kits instead of putting them on a shelf as an "investment".

Thanks Tom, I have no interest in 'investing' kits as tens of thousands of each were possibly made. I'm too interested in building, although this one has given me a space problem being that the wingspan is over 12 inches wide!

Very nice "Box Car". I made my first 5 jumps out of one of those and ditto the noise comment. They also reeked of AV-gas and I was CONCERNED THAT IT MIGHT NOT CLIMB TO ALTITUDE. It shuttered and shook all the way to the drop zone. I was glad to get out of it. I remember that kit very well. Those were the days of Aurora, Revell, and Lindberg, and a little later Monogram. Monograms early kits were a combination of wood and plastic. I dont remember that kit being that nice. You did a great job with it.

Great looking built Pat! I love the palletized jeep & howitzer! All they need are the cargo tie down straps to the pallets. I remember seeing that Aurora kit in the stores de upon a time, but never built one. Love seeing how it builds up!

Ranger, you're showing your age if you had those for your first five jumps at Benning Wink I have heard tales about jumping from those... Indifferent

Showing my age is no problem. Feeling my age is a bear. My knees and hips are feeling the result of the hard landings with the T-10 chutes. Today they jump a much improved chute and the C130 or C141 are a much nicer ride and jump platform. I would like to have had the free-fall and HALO training like most, if not all, rangers today, but I am grateful for the experiences I did get. Thank you to all who have served and those who continue to serve. For me it was an honor. What was the name of that indian?!!!

And remember, there are two things that fall from the sky. Bird do do and airborn!!!Big Smile

Pat that looks great. Love the idea of the jeep and howitzer. Thats a great touch. Ranger I know how you feel with the age thing. I learned to jump from the c-130. Wish I could have experienced what you did. My jumps were usually over water at night. Like you I am feeling it now. Thanks for your service and everyone elses to.

I remember buikding a couiple of those old Aurora kits.  The 119 was my Mother's favorite aircraft for some reason.

When I was at Little Rock in the mid 70s we had a entire squadron stop over for crew rest on their way to D.M. for storage.  The next morning I sat in my Police truck while the crews left bvase ops and went to their aircraft.  One by one they took off as I watched until one blew out its left engine on takeoff and taxied back to the transit ramp with oil all over the left boom.  They walked into ops and asked if someone could use a display piece because there were no parts coming and if someone signed fo rit they would find a way home.  It sat for a couple weeks util it was cleaned up and then ended up well inside the main gate where the road split into two directions.  Once in a while we caught some dependants inside having parties until it was finally locked up tight.  As far as I know it's still there but with a couple more aircraft.

Very cool.
Grampa flew those after WW2. He went from B-17's to B-24's and then a dozen other things. He said it was interesting to fly

Cheers, LeeTree
