A Hail Mary ?
Posted by Aggieman on Saturday, October 15, 2022 5:01 PM

Today I am putting decals onto my Hawker Typhoon (Hasegawa kit 09060 JT60) 1/48 scale, with the squadron codes ZY B in a teal color.  I put the last Z into position with some decal setting solution, let it sit for a bit then dabbed it with a rag as is my usual process.  The dad-gummed Z decal came away on the rag.  The decal setting solution had made it a total loss.

I've checked all my old decal sheets, and the decal sheets included with kits in my stash, but no Z in teal.

So the hail mary question is, does anyone happen to have this kit and not use that particular marking?  I would be happy to compensate for the trouble, mailing, and decal.

Thank you,

Steven

I have the kit but it's in storage for the next few months.  If you don't get any hits, I'll get it to you around the March timeframe 2023.

Thanks,

John

Thanks John.  If I waited until March, I'd likely forget I was even building this one.  Big Smile

I ended up taking measurements against the surviving decal and then cutting a mask from tape.  I didn't get it exactly the same size but close enough.  The problem ended up being my placement of the tape, it's not in alignment with the adjacent "Y".  It's close but not exactly right.  But in my eyes, it's acceptable.

Good news.  How was the kit BTW?

Thanks,

John

John, it was a good kit.  Detail and fit is par for the course for a Hasegawa kit from the late 90s.

Pics?

I didn't take any pics at the time, but here is the build thread that I just created with photographs, one of which does show the off-kilter Z.
