Now There!
Don't get Bent. This is not about a floaty thingy! This is about a floaty thingy with wings! Eduard's kit number 2118 is a box of surprises. Yes it is. This kit I wrote about sometime back. Well, now that I am no longer involved at the R.R. Museum I have time to build.
When I started basic construction(Cleaning parts ets and fitting an glueing a few I discovered something. One, this 1/72 kit has a lot of detail. Two, the P.E. is nice Three, the masks are well laid out Four the clear parts are clear, but leave something to desire. They are very brittle. The canopy broke when I tried to remove it from the sprue,With a Sprue Cutter!!
I could find no info on getting a replacement part. I believe this kit is a Former Sword offering and that's why it's a "Limited Edition". Now with that I have to say.The history of the Aircraft is what got me to buy it. Why? Well it is the only kitted version of the Sikorsky-S-43/JRS-1. I-J-1 was the one that is the subject here-Bu.no. 1063
She not only survived Dec-7-1941 she was one of the planes that searched for the Japanese Fleet with the crew, some in skivvies armed only with the handguns and rifles they could quickly acquire. I restarted her on Dec 7- 2022. She is now at Udvar-Hazy. Surprisingly ALL the JRS-1s survived the Attack.
A fascinating Model, But be careful if you have her because the clear parts and the resin parts can be a problem. Now, back to my Wingy Thingy that floats.
