Spitfire painting

Finished painting the Spit.  Trying preshading technique for paint fade.  Not sure how I feel about it yet.  Chipping looks a little off too.  Please comment.  I will paint the markings.

Looks good Paul.  Looking forward to seeing how she looks with the markings - those roundels always make the camo pop.

Thanks,

John

I have a mask set for the roundels and letters.  Sorta stressed about the 4 color roundel on the fuselage side.  We'll see how it goes.  Thanks for the compliment

WPW -

In wartime service everything is pushed hard, washing and shining is at the lowest consideration. Exposure to dirt, mud, ground crew crawling all over them with oily uniforms, really added up to a grimy appearance. That wasn't really a bad thing, either, due to a rough and less reflective surface making camo even more effective.

So I think your Spit's finish is totally realistic and represents front line service very well, nice job. You've opened up some new ideas for me, weathering has always been my weak point. Thanks for the post and photos.
