FAA color?
Posted by missileman2000 on Thursday, June 8, 2023 9:40 AM

I am intending to build a Wyvern and a Gannet soon.  I have never built a British carrier aircraft before.  What is a good light blue green color for the "sky" color?

Not sure which sort of paints you're wishing to use, Don, but I've found Tamiya's XF-21 Sky to be a creditable match to color photos of Fleet Air Arm birds. It can be easily tinted white or grey if you're trying to do tonal matches with other colors used.

Cheers

Greg

Just about every model paint company makes RAF/FAA Sky in their current line ups. Tamiya, Gunze, Vallejo, AK, Mission Models, Humbrol.... pick your favorite paint brand and have a look for the color.

I use Humbrol "Sky".

Interesting fact if you even build a Swordfish- FAA camouflage color on the upper surface of the top wing are darker that those on the lower wing.

Thanks, guys.  I have been a Testors guy, but have been intending to try the Humbrol.  I'll look for their Sky.

In that case, it's #90 in their line, Beige Green by name.

My modeling friend happened to have a bottle of Tamiya Sky he had no use for, and gave it to last night at a club meeting.
