Wingnut Wings 1/32 scale Sopwith Snipe (Early)
Posted by Tim Kidwell on Monday, October 2, 2023 3:14 PM

Hi all,

You'll remember that for Build a Model Month last year, I posted Wingnut Wings Fokker Eindecker E.IV. I'm finally getting around to posting photos of my Wingnut Wings 1/32 scale Sopwith Snipe (Early). This model, especially toward the end of the build, was a course in catastrophe management, and there were a couple of times I was ready to simply call it. But here it is, finished.

She looks good, Tim. How would you describe the color? Looks like linen.

Do you have a stash of WnW kits stored away? Have a Hansa Brandenburg seaplane in there?

Bill

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

A really excellent build, Tim, I'm glad you stuck with it and we all got to see it. All of the rigging wires are perfectly placed and tensioned, not such any easy task I know. This one belongs both here and on the pages of the magazine. Will you enter it in any show competitions?

Thanks for the post and photos, it's a good'un.

Thank you, Bill.

It's silver dope (Tamiya Aluminum and Sky Grey in a 2:1 ratio).

Truth be told, the majority of my stash is WNW kits. I have a weakness for WWI planes. The rest is sci-fi and wooden ships. And a certain 8-horse hitch that I plan to start next week. As for the W.29, is a wink as good as a nod?

Patrick, I appreciate your praise. Thank you.

As many know, competitions aren't really my thing, but I'll occasionally roll out a model or figure for one. This past weekend (Sept. 30), the judges at NordicCon awarded me a gold for my efforts on the Snipe. I was both surprised and humbled by their esteem.

Toward the end of the Snipe build, another project joined the workbench. I was working on it when I fumbled my hobby knife. As I tried to get out of the way of the tumbling knife, I inadvertently stabbed myself in the pad of my palm just below my thumb and spilled my coffee, which I usually keep on a different table just to avoid occasions such as this! Cautionary tale, my friends!
