Thanks Greg - kind of hard to tell but the outboard gun on the illustrations seems quite a bit shorter than the inboard/ wingroot  Mk 151 which would indicate the Mk 108 cannon of the R2 . Here's an interesting video on the evolution of the armament of the FW190 defending against allied bombers

Not sure whether you've seen it, but there's an actual photo of 'Black 4' online -- pretty grainy, but it might be of interest:

Here's the page, if you want to check it out:

Correction -- Eagle Cals includes this aircraft  on its R2 sheet https://www.eagle-editions.com/product/eaglecals-175-48/

It's almost certainly the same bird -- either one is incorrect or maybe Black 4 was converted to a R2 -

Trying not to be a rivet counter here Confused

Thanks Again -- I now realize that 'Black 4' was a FW 190 A8 , not a FW 190 A8 R2- I mistakenly assumed 'Rammjaeger'( the title of the Aeromaster  decal sheet)  on which  Black 4 was featured to mean R2

https://www.ultracast.ca/AeroMaster-48-696-Rammjager-Part-4-p/am48696.htm

Since this bird has the R2's outboard Mk 108 cannons I'll need to go with different markings - Luckily Im early on and havent committed yet-

each has a corresponding 'blown' canopy opposite on the sprue tree (blued out as none of kit versions are for blown canopy) , so likely I should use the 'blown' canopy opposite that of the standard to pose open --

Actually, if it's true to life -- as I suspect Eduard will be -- the 'open' version of each canopy should be slightly narrower than the closed one. (And the open 'blown' canopy should actually be slightly higher as well, since the bubble flexed upward as the canopy slid back on its rails...but I don't know for sure whether that slight difference would be noticable in 1/48 scale.)

The flat-sided canopy actually hinged at the top...but the bubble canopy just 'squeezed.' Big Smile

ok - a closer look at the instructions show separate canopies for standard , one for closed & 1 for open --  each has a corresponding 'blown' canopy opposite on the sprue tree (blued out as none of kit versions are for blown canopy) , so likely I should use the 'blown' canopy opposite that of the standard to pose open --

hopefully this may save someone some confusion -- it's a great kit

Thanks Greg - i'm fairly certain part C73 is the pylon -- I can dry fit / experiment with one of the kit supplied blown canopy before I commit to black 4 - Im planning on an open canopy so not sure if that part will work -- Eduard supplies 2 standard and 2 blown canopies in the kit ( to add to the confusion)

so I'll have to see if the kit has all I need to install the 'blown' type canopy

Just as an FYI...if that 'blown' style pylon isn't included in the kit, it's dead-simple to make with something like pie-plate (or soda can) aluminum -- or even paper. Yes

Hi Greg - Thanks , that's exactly the info  I was looking for - I have the decals for Black 4 so I'll have to see if the kit has all I need to install the 'blown' type canopy

Below is the kit URL

By 'seatback' are you referring to the pylon behind the pilot's armor plate? If so, you'd need to use the bubble or 'blown' canopy version for Black 4 -- which was a shaped, almost tubular shroud instead of the 'strut' type brace used for the original flat-sided (low profile) canopy. Some good illustrations of the different versions on the "Aussie Fw190" page here. Scroll down a bit for the drawings.

For the 'Weekend' kit, it's probably one of the greyed-out 'do not use' parts in the instructions. I don't have reference to the part numbers, but it shouldn't be hard to spot.

Cheers

Have you checked the kit to see if that part is included? Those Ed kits come with dozens of extra parts.
