going postal (2)
Posted by lolok on Saturday, May 8, 2004 7:33 AM
Reading the thread about postal woes, prompts me to write that I have just been done over by the Polish postal system. One of our members,Bill Barber in New Jersey ( Ex WW11 Marine) and I have been writing to each other for a while now and after hearing that I could not get hold of a Lindberg kit,he decided to order and send it to me. That was over five weeks ago!!!! Since then,Zilch. Questions at the post office just get a dumb look and a non comprende. Bill is a pensioner and a thoroughly good guy so this really ticks me off.
I have not told him yet,I will wait one more week and see what happens. It was the Lindberg Pirate Ship kit and Lindberg are not available here in Poland. He sent it ordinary mail,as air would have cost three times the kit price but it seems that air is no safer. As in the Philipines.

If it's any help to you, last year I bought a model on Ebay from a seller in Italy. It took six weeks for it to arrive, but I did finally receive it. I have also bought from sellers in the UK and the norm is about four to five weeks.
Having traveled in Eastern Europe, I can see why such seemingly simple things can get very complicated (have you ever tried to find the correct train from Buda-Pest to Prague?).

Hang in there, and hope for the best.
If it turns out that there is a better and more secure way to get the kit to you, I will be first in line to contribute to the expense of making that happen.
Email me if you or Bill need any help.

best wishes,

stinger

Last November I ordered P-39 decals from a seller also from Italy and I sent $13 cash by mail and that's the last I heard of it.

If only Fed Ex or UPS were more affordable! I share your pain. Smile [:)]

I agree about Fed Ex and UPS. WE have a wonderful resource in the web that modellers never had before. Then it is all let down by snail mail and sticky fingered mail handlers. No insult intended to the millions of honest mail men and women across the World, just the few flies in the ointment...
