LED's for 747-400
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, April 6, 2003 12:37 PM
Hi,
I'm going to be building a 1:144 scale 747-400, I would like to add working beacons and landing lights, can some one tell me the best place to find everything I will need to put this project together, I will need red, green and clear LED's in scale with the rest of the model, and a device to make them flash.
I have built ton's of models from all different subjects, but this will be my first attempt at adding anything like this to a kit, I'm anxious to start working out the details and get the materials I will need to figure out the wiring.
So I Thank you ahead of time for any info and direction to weblinks that will help me find the items I will need for this project.
Thank you
Paz

Paz,
Did you ever get an answer to this question that you posted in FSM's forum?

I'm interested in adding a light feature to the tail end of 2 1:35 scale Hellfire missiles in a diorama I'm building and think that any answers you received may be of some use to me.

TIA

You can pick up all the pieces you need from Maplin.
For the flasher, if you want all the beacons to flash in synch, you can either run the LED's from a 555 timer circuit
OR,
you run optical fibres from a single flashing LED
You will have to work out how the odel is to be powered; if you're using white LEDs for the strobes, you'll need at least 5V forward current.

I used these guys for wing tip lights for my 1/144 scale C-5B. They had 3 MM size and they even came to a extra long lenght so I could run the wiring thru the wings, along the inside of the body and then underneath the floor boards and finally down thru the front kneeled down landing gear bay. About 3 feet is what I asked for and they did it that way for me. They Rock!
