Why is it so hard to find ANY 1/48 Intruder kits. Does anyone know any decent 1/48 that are still in production. This is aggravating!!!!!!!!

Monogram and Revell are the only kits that I know of. Blackbox also makes an excellant replacement cockpit for the monogram A-6E tram. Keep an eye on squadron or even some of the other model sale sites for reissues. (worse comes to worse keep an eye on ebay)
3d modelling is an option a true mental excercise in frusrtation

What a coincidence: I had just been digging through the collection buried in the closet yesterday. I dug out a few of the old Fujimi 1:48 scale kits, one of which was their old A-6A Intruder.

I mentioned this kit in another thread... I started it years ago. The fuselage halves and wing assemblies have been cemented, and that's about all.

The canopy is a nice three-piece affair which replicates the prototype well, but cockpit detail is non-existant; the same goes for the gear wells. I believe Testors has re-released this one in the past.

Fitter,

Does this kit have any cockpit at all? Are you willing to part w/ it?

Sorry, guys, it's not for sale!Sad [:(]

There is a decent review of this kit in Detail&Scale Vol.24 A-6 Intruder. From this text: "The cockpit has some detailing, but most of it is wrong. While the seats are staggered, they are very poor, and could be rebuilt, or ones from F-14 kits could be used as a basis with some reworking and fitting. The center horizontal console is present, but the vertical console and side consoles are missing. The instrument panel has a scope hood on it for the B/N, and a number of raised circles represent instruments. However, they are not even an approximation of what the instruments in any A-6 looked like. The very noticeable scope on the pilot's side is not even represented.

A very inadequate control column is the only other detail in the cockpit proper. The area behind the seats is 'busy' with some plumbing and a slot for a phony vertical slide extending up to the canopy."

At one time Fujimi had the best kits around. The exterior of these kits is nice, with only minor omissions. If the cockpits on the aircraft in this series are barren, the landing gear wells are worse. You'd be better off looking for the Revell A-6E kit in this scale, even if you wanted to backdate it to an early model like this.

I agree with FITTER. The Monogram A-6E kit is much better than the Fujimi. You can also get the A-6 update from Verlinden which is very nice. How ever it will not fit the Fujimi kit as I tried to do it. With the minor mistakes the Monogram kit has it is still a much better kit.

Check out ITALIERI, they Intruders in 1/72 in two versions the first is a strike AC, forgot the model though and the second is a tanker version. If they have it 1/72 most probably they also have it in 1/48.

Hi,

The Revell/Monogram ECM A-6 is available here in Germany. It should cost about 18$ and I could check it out for you if you want.

Hey Chumbley,

I don't know how familiar you are with E-bay, but I did a search for the Revell 1/48 Intruder and found 3 kits for sale. Only one was a complete kit (no missing parts). I believe there are 6 days left to bid with no bidders. Starting bid was around 20 bucks. The kit comes in the original box as well. By the way, I'm not the one selling it, just took a look around to see if I could find one.
