Future question...
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, April 7, 2003 3:04 PM
i know that the glossier the surface the better the decals go on, so lately i've tried using future to see what all the buzz is about, but i seem to be getting silvering on my decals even though the future seems pretty slick. is it neccessary to put on several coats to make it real thick or perhaps is there another problem i'm not seeing. before i used future i used to use testor glosscoat out of an airbrush and got pretty good results.

I'm sure there are many on here who can tell you the proper way to use Future. I use Tamiya's clearcoat and get great results. It goes on smooth and I usually spray 2 coats. Good luck!

When I use future, I put it on in several thin coats to build it up - I too have been "burned" by the "it-sure-looks-smooth" method!! Recently, a friend recommended using a big soft brush to put it on and I'm going to give that a try (he sues #5 red sable from windsor and newton).

But bottom line, I'd say go with what works best for you!
Best of luck-

Karl

I use Humbrol gloss acrylic varnish, decal, then semi gloss or Krylon matt, it depends on the a/c type. The problem may be your decals, they vary from kit to kit as regards silvering. try using a decal setting/softening solution, again, I use Humbrol Decalfix, it's cheap, last's a long time per bottle and doesn't seem to harm most decal types. Try using future on canopies, I brush it on, it gives a good shine to the plastic, almost like the real thing. good luck!
