1/72 Tamiya spit help
Posted by tknight on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 4:48 PM
The instructions call for gold leaf colour on the frame inside the canopy. I think.
Can anyone confirm if this is the correct colouring for the frame inside the canopy, or if not, just what are they referring to?

TIA
Regards, Tim

I hate to bet against Tamiya, but I don't think the gold-leaf reference is correct. None of my Spitfire references call this out. I beleive all interior framing was painted in RAF Interior Grey-Green. If you look at the pictured model on the box top you will see the gold leaf showing up, sort of like the yellow sealant on many modern aircraft. I don't see this in any photographs nor have I seen it depicted this way in any Profile att-work. I am far from being an expert on the Spit but I go with the Interior Green on my models.

Thanks,
I have been going nuts trying to figure out what the reference is. On closer examination I noticed that there is a bar on the inside of the canopy, on the glassed portion behind the cockpit. I think that this bar that runs longitudinally is what the refernece is. Again, the pictures I have seeen depict this in the same colour as the general canopy. Though, I can only find a few cockpit photos of the MK I that show this level of detail.

Took a closer look and I think you are correct that the reference is to the bar on the inside of the canopy. Hasegawa has this bar as a separate piece in their 1/48 scale Spit interiors and calls for RAF interior grey-green. Don't have a 1/72 Hasegawa to check.
