Airfix 1:24 FW 190

The bigger the model, the harder it is to gt everything to fit properly. Was it ever stored where it might have got too hot??

All I can say is to just keep working at it!!

Don't forget, this kit dates back years, so the moulds may be tired. The 1/24 P51 I built a while ago had the same problem. There was an article in FSM a couple of years ago maybe (How to photo models?, not sure) that featured the 190, it took the builder 1000 hours or so to get a detailed model from the kit. Just slap on the filler, rub down carefully and study lots of pics. Good Luck!

Albert may have hit the nail on the head. Old molds can "go bad", so to speak. As an example, I built an original issue of the Hasegawa (ex-Mania) 48th Ki-27 Nate. It went together like a dream. But recently I started a newer boxing of the same kit and, though the problems were not bad, it was a different building experience than the first one I built. There are other variable as well, I'm sure.

And bigger does not necessarily mean bad fit, I built a Revell 1/32 MiG-29 years back as a favor for a friend who was in a bind. He needed a bunch of kits built in a matter of days and I got the call. I was rather pleased with the way the thing went together, too bad I don't build braille-scale for myself. Now the Monogram 72nd B-1 I did on that same project was another story entirely, but this is a family forum. So in conclusion, I shall finish by ending.

Same for the P-51 Mustang it has a terrible fit.

In my opinion stay away from Airfix! I had a horrible experience with their 1/24th scale Mustang. The kit not only had fit problems but it had no detail in the wheel wells and no detail in the gun bays. Along with those problems the plastic was very soft which made it difficult to shave off excess plastic and the wings looked warped to me when finished. The FW 190 may be different but for me I wont touch an Airfix kit again.

It did seem like a good idea at the time when I saw it.. I must admit, Airfix (and matchbox..) goes back to my school days in England. School blazers, scruffy knees and airfix spitfire models. Brings back memories..

I´ve already kinda decided to use this kit as both a refresher course and a tech testbed for ideas I've picked up around here recently. If it turns out half decent, I´ll see if I can get some pics posted (at a proper site, not geocities..).

I can relate to those memories, I'm a Brit too, I'm now working in Riyadh of all places!. Come to think of it, there's a craft shop downtown with that Fw kit in stock, and only around 30 pounds, I might just have a go!
As for my mustang, with the aid of a 'Squadron' walk round book, I superdetailed the wheel wells, and the cockpit,added a second seat, lost the guns and it's a pylon racer, looks good too. Worth all the effort.
