RonUSMC, the weapons were installed but no munitions were on board until it was loaded by the military entity that received the plane.

Its hard to believe that aircraft would leave the factory with weapons installed. Thats almost inviting disaster. I would ask a ton of questions.

Who would fly it with full weapons from the factory?
Who would be authorized to fly with weapons over civilian towns?
Who designed the weapons and would they be shipped to the factory to be in installed?

My omission on the serials-that's always done at the factory. I double-checked by sources and most US a/c until late 1944 were sent from the factory in OD/Neutral Grey. I also have my late aunt's scrapbook. She helped build B-26 Marauders and B-29's for Glenn L. Martin Aircraft in Omaha, Nebraska. The color photos of the Marauders show all of them in OD and grey. The first few B-29's are OD and grey, but the later batches were all natural metal. Hope it helps.- Ed

I'm not at home to check my "library" but I seem to remember a B-25 similar to what you discribed and it was in "natural metal", not painted. They always had the SN and National Insignias painted on at the factory.

Clear Left!

Keyworth is correct but I must add that a/c for delivery to the US had the serial # painted on at the factory.

Aircraft were generally painted in OD/neutral grey from the factory with the national insignia painted on (for US a/.c). A/c built under contract for foreign buyers/users (e.g. Great Britain, etc, usually had their paint schemes applied at the factory using the equivalent FS # paint. Aircraft that were diverted to foreign users were often repainted with local paint stores to the users protocols( for example, the AVG, the RAAF, etc.). As to guns, I believe that planes most left the factory with defensive and offensive weaponry in place. Hope this helps. - Ed

Hi all ,I am currently working on a Revell B-25. I want to model the aircraft as it rolled out of the plant doors,my question is did the planes have their weapons installed before or after they were ferried by the Wasp pilots to their units. Also did they have tail numbers ,I know they did have the National insignia ,my model is to be an employee recognition plane .....wich will have aprox 500 hand painted signatures in flat white to similate chalk ,and the10,000 th B-25 built on the nose were the nose art would normaly go..stay tuned thank you Colleen
