Try

They flew Spits before transitioning to Mustangs. This transition happened in Africa or Italy for the 308th FS of the 31st FG though the CO of the 308th kept his Spitfire a long time in Italy. Other squdns. may not have transitioned until later.
I have the book "Mustang Ace" by Lt. Bob Goebel who was a local ace and flew the Mustang "The Flying Dutchman" (HL * N). Excellent book.

P.S. The 31st called themselves the "Thirsty Firsters"

Whaz up Redleg1-7FA,
As claymore68 explained about the 31st FG, Ventura Publications did a book on the "Thirsty Firsters" entitled "American Spitfires".
This book was done by Paul Ludwig and Malcolm Laird.
Also they did a part 2 on the American Spitfires but if I'm not mistaken this book bounces between areas of operation that the Spits were used.
Flaps up,Mike

THE aviation book company in England can be found at - www.midlandcountiessuperstore.com or email midlandbooks@compuserve.com
If they do not have what you want then it hasn't been printed yet!

Superscale lists a 48th sheet for mark 5 trops. You can see it on their web site www.superscale.com. they say they only sell through distributors.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

Part 2 covers the 52nd FG, with a few pages covering the 4th FG and recon Spits.
