1/48 P47 TAMYIA

I think its a means for the mfr. to find a common ground so that the builder can either build stock and have a passable yet quality kit, or the detail guy to be able to "modify" the basic kit and build the variants of a model. Putting as much modification and detail into it that they want.
Its cheaper than trying to produce in mass every variant of every model of a particular vehicle/aircraft.
Besides look at the creative outlet we get.

I have heard the Tamiya P-47 described as the BEST plastic kit of the P-47 in ANY scale. And there are already many aftermarket goodies out there, such as early "D" straight cowl flaps, "C" cowl & flaps, and many more.

I see no one really answered the question Carletto had regarding the flaps. Yes they are seperated and it is the only 1/48 kit of the Thunderbolt with this feature.

If people are going to complain about a particular kit being a off just a tad, this hobby aint for them.
I am glad the Jug was done by Tamiya. I'm gonna build it even if the retraction jacks are 1mm too short
If I were to go by the kits flaws or what people have said, half the kits I own would not be built. There will always be a flaw(s) somewhere in a kit no matter how good a co is(or at least to those VERY picky builders).
That is why we are called modelers...!!!

I read a build review of the Tamiya kit in 'Tamiya Modeller International' magazine. It was a preproduction kit, but the only faults found were;
The gun inserts needed sanding to fit the wing contour.
The canopy was a little too wide.
The landing gear retraction jacks were 2mm too short.
Other than that, & the guy painted the interior the wrong shade of green, it sounds impressive and looked impressive in the pictures.
I wonder if there's a bubble top coming?

Classic kit; built about nine of them. Good value, but a bit more work.

how bout the monogram jug? good value, good detail(not as good as tamiya/hasegawa)

Being a Jug enthusiast, I can say that the Tamiya kit is the best P-47 kit I've seen in over 30 years of modelling, and I've build them all, including the vacuform kits, conversions and resin kits. None better anywhere. Buy it, you won't regret it. Regards, Ed.

I've yet to get one of these, but have seen a few built-up and have advised a pal in the building of his. All I can say is;

Buy it, build it! Also, look for the bubbletop soon!

I have almost finished Tamiya's P-47D Thunderbolt. I will say it was one of the best fitting and most enjoyable kits I have built in 20 years. Worth every penny, was also built OOB.

I've got the P-47D Razorback from Tamiya, and I'd have to say I bought it because I really felt it was worth the money. I've not yet built it, but I can't recall seeing dropped flaps when I inspected it after purchase.
The tooling is typical of Tamiya - very clean and sharp. They do go to more trouble than most manufacturers to make sure all the bits fit properly - if I can't get something to fit well on a Tamiya kit, then I've probably done something wrong.
If you do purchase it, I don't think you'll be disappointed. FSM recently had a workbench review on it, the April 2003 issue , why not have a look at it online- check out the URL below
