Nowotneys Me262- white 8
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 4:01 PM
Hi folks,
Im currently building the Italeri 1/48 ME262 and want to finish it as Walter Nowotneys white 8.
the kits painting guide shows a 82/83 /76 scheme but in the Osprey publication"german jet aces of world war 2" there is a colour side elevation showing a solid dark green scheme !!
( 82?) unlike the "usual" 81/82/76 scheme.
Any ideas folks?????.

I finished mine as the 82/83/76 scheme. That was an early 262. So I "believe" that's the correct color pattern.

Big problem is "NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE" what the correct scheme for any 262 was. At that late in the war, records weren't kept up on that. So I say paint it to what you think the scheme should be. No one can prove you wrong.

The other pattern that I use for the Me-262 is 81/83/76. That's what I used for Bar's and Galland's jets.

Hope this helps you out, or at least gives you a start.
BTW don't look at the Osprey books to seriously, many of those profiles have been proven wrong.

Tony;
Nowi's planes were drawn from the testing unit and being some of the first produced were probabily 74 75 / 76. Yellow band and tail stencil were standard for planes from testing squadron. Yellow engine intake cowls were probabily NMF. There are no photos so training and test unit patterns are next best bet. Am sure this isn't definitive answer but shoud give you pause for consideration.
