Thanks for the info. Have you seen the X-31 in flight? Simply amazing the way it turns on a dime!

I believe SHARKIT used to make one in 1/72, but it's been out of production for a few years now.

Not very helpful, but since the real X-31 is back flying again, maybe it's due a reissue - PLEASE!

Ah lovely, lovely X-planes! Anyone know if they make a kit in 1/72 of the X-31? This was a join effort betwwen the US and Germany. It researched advanced fighter maneuverability.

Depends which side of the fence you were taking the photos from!

Not sure if you can get a clean angle from outside, and cameras are a strict no-no on the inside.

Hi Rob thanks for the info, probably the same site. I showed my mum models of both types because i thought the same as you she said it was definitly a halifax with both outer engines removed she told me it may have been used for training air gunners or armourers and that she was allowed to play in it when she took my grandads sandwiches to him at dinner time and she preffered the upper turret as it turned all the way round which would mean it can't be a hampden. The spitfire was polished to a high standerd by airmen on punishment detail or "jankers". she told me the dates that they where there but she passed away in 86 and i can't remember the dates but the halifax was there during the war. Don't know of an airfield actually in Preston, but the other nearby site is Samlesbury.

That's another BAE SYSTEMS site just the other side of Preston, heading towards Blackburn.

Think it used to be a Handley Page site, then English Electric, so that may well be the one you mean.

Twin engined Halifax? Not a Hampden by any chance? Just a guess!

These days they have a Lightning, Buccaneer and a Canberra on the gate.

I have a Revell X-15 kit at home, but I'm not sure what scale it is. I don't think it is as nice as the Monogram version, but I've never really seen one to compare.

I also just got the new Squadron flyer and there is an X-15 on sale from a supplier I've never heard of (Special Hobby from Czech Republic) and it is 1/48 scale.

Anyone ever heard of this and have any opinions?

Hi Rob (may i call you Rob?) thinksfor the info i know i am bordering on being a pain in he arse but could i pick your brains again? as i mentiond on another thread my grandad worked on aircraft namely lightning,tsr2 canberra and jet provost . he was also a "Wartonite" he used to live in Kirkham (Corronation street( i kid you not))and before he was at warton he was at an airfield at preston, does this still exist? he worked there during WW2 and for a while after for English Electric. he wouldnt talk much about what he worked on because he was always somewhat bitter about the aircraft industry after the TSR2 fiasco but my mum did mention what she described as a "twin engined halifax"? and a polished silver spitfire on the gate after the war. any ideas or info on these? as i feel a diorama comming on...Greg

It's a great job, difficult and frustrating at times, it dosn't pay particularly well, but my desk has a terrific view of the flightline!

I suppose the best thing is doing a job that really does make a difference, plus it's the one job I wanted to do from the age of 6!

I started out maintaining Cessnas and Pipers, 17 years ago! I guess I've been lucky, but if you believe in yourself, you also get to make your own luck!

Hi again. I built the monogram X15 a couple of years ago.good kit well fitting parts includes astronaught/pilot standing figure (handy for dioramas) the small scamjet under the tail and markings for an all black and all white version. Whats it like having a job most of us can only dream about? the nearest i have got to it is working on cessna spamcans pipers beechcraft ect and the a/c at newark air museum and i now spray paint bits of oil rig for a living. not as much fun but pays much better...Gregers

You could also look for the old Hawk XF-92A, not the most detailed but its there.
Monogram made the X-15A2 in 1/72nd , they are still around just have to hunt, there was an article in FSM a while back on how to backdate it to X-15.

Try checking in an official website. I´m sure Tamiya does other X-planes. I´ve also heard Dragon (DML) makes good models. Try there.

Thanks for the reminder Dj, got an X-32 by Italeri today, along with a Revell X-35.

The X-32 was a pretty radical looking beast, perhaps a little too radical for DoD!

One of the guys I work with describes it as 'A bathtub with wings'!

Gotta admit the X-35 looked a bit prettier!

Also picked up a Mach 2, Ryan X-13 Vertijet complete with launch trolley!

I think the tricky one is going to be the X-6 (Nuclear powered Convair B-36)!

Still, I have a dream!

I want to say that Monogram made the 52 w/ the X-15 in 1/72nd.

I also kinda have a dark side for X-Planes. I myself wish Tamiya or Haswgawa would do a X-32B in 1/48th(think Tamiya is doing it in 72nd though).
This is how I got into the X's or at least the X-32. I had met a gentlemen who was one of the heads up w/ the "Flight control systems" on the X-32B(Pax River MD). After talking w/ him for a bit, that got my juices going....!!!!!!
With me being soooo interested in aviation(and my family background) he sent me a few 8x10 offical pics, factory bucklets and patches from the 32 project.O BOY O BOY
In return I have to send him some pics of the built up when I actually build it.

I know I have seen some X-15 kits at my hobby shop before, but I cant remember who made them. As for the B-52, you can always take the popular kit and make it a conversion project if you want the drop ship version.
